We finished it this weekend and I don't have much to add that hasn't already been mentiond here. REally lousy finish and honestly the entire last season was a chore to get through. Season 1 was SO DAMN GOOD, I mean it wans't quite breaking bad but it wasn't THAT far below it IMO. Then it just consistently declind all the way to the finish line. There was just entirely too much shite going on ALL THE TIME to really even stay engaged in. As for the ending and final season
-They haphazardly throw together 2 characters right at the end. We've known camila for like 3 episodes, why should anyone care about her? We don't even know her. Why as the view should we care whether her or omar wins?
-bringing back rachel..what? I undersatnd they pikced her instaed of a random new cast because she has a history and would want ot screw over the byrdes. But this is a woman that has fought hard to copmletely move on from the ozark life and start fresh, and it looks liek she's healthy and happy in miami. So one visit from ruth and the next day she's on a plane to the ozarks to work around drugs and booze in a casino like she just escaped from? Did she quit her job? What about her home? Did she move back permanently?
-the shaw medical lady..I just never really cared about her or her story.
-In the first season the cartel was represented by Del and that guy was scary. He's replaced by navarro who just seems like a potbellied hispanic guy you'd see at a neighborhood bbq. Then at the very end we get his sister who is even less scary. Shouldn't we be fearful of these cahracters? Also something tells me that if omar was in prison as a 100% direct result of the byrdes putting them there, they wouldn't still be living
-Marty running the cartel? Come the frick on. I mean i know this show requires some disbelief but that takes the cake. Whitebread marty byrde is going to go to mexico and RUN THE CARTEL? ANd he sits down with them one by one going over each person's books like a math teacher checking their students' work.
-The local PD still doesn't really seem all that concerned that the former sherriff is missing even though they presumably know where he was going the last time he was alive.
-Ozark was awesome when you had the byrdes in town trying to launder money for the cartel and a cast of smart but hillbilly locals getting in their way like the langmores and the snells. That was tense TV drama. But then you introduce more cartel people, the KC mob, a PI, a pharmaceutical company executive, jonah byrd working for a competing operation, a casino boat, the FBI, Wendy entering politics in a way that I still don't even really understand, etc...it's just too damn much. There were far too many storylines going on at one and all seemed ot be resolved just as quickly as they crop up.
-WTF WAS THE POINT OF THE CAR CRASH
-Lastly I know the town PD is on the take but at some point they would just invent something to arrest the byrdes on considering what's happened in the town in teh short time since they arrived. The ozarks was not perfect and did have this illicit activity oging on (that cops knew about) pre-byrds but since they arrived there is a laundry list of locals that have died, and that's not even counting people that law enforcement doesn't even know about like Del for instance. But ones they are/shoudl be aware of off the top of my head: jacob snell, their employee Ash, he sleezy strip club owner, the pastor's wife, darlene, wyatt, ruths' dad I think?, , the former sherriff, ben, and probably countless others. At some point PD would be like "man everyone the byrdes associate with dies, I wonder if that's a coincidence"

I hated the ending. Wendy should have died in a painful slow fashion in the finale.
The show really began to become unrealistic when they bought the riverboat for the casino. That thing was a toy. A tiny little paddlewheel, that looked huge every time they had a scene inside it. Totally unbelievable and downright laughable.
Maybe the boat was like a Tardis.

Finished it last night and was disappointed. I should have known to expect disappointment in retrospect but I held out hope.

And they all keep detailed paper accounting ledgers for their illegal cartel business in case they're raided.

We’re not supposed to care who wins. They spend the last half of this season telling you over and over it doesn’t matter.

Cringey and lazy. Agreed.

They’re powerless and outgunned on so many levels.
I thought the last second half of the season was fantastic up until the finale. Finale wasn’t the worst I’ve seen. But it wasn’t good.

And Camila was a late addition as is
I really hate that Ruth was killed by a character that was only on the show for 3-4 episodes. Camila existed to kill Ruth and not much else.

I honestly thought she had OD’d and was dead.

Metaphorical. It was to show that the Byrdes were untouchable. A car crash that should’ve killed everybody in the vehicle…yet nobody even gets a scratch. It was the writers’ way of foreshadowing that nothing, not even dumb fate, was going to bring this family down.

As far as I could tell, it was just another vehicle to show how rabidly aggressive and stupid Wendy had become. Same with Camilla too. Seems like the last two seasons was mostly Wendy doing stupid shite and Marty trying to fix them.

I must have missed something with the story line. I thought there was a plot to also take out Camilla and Marty run the Cartel for the FBI
There was but it changed many times based on what Wendy thought would best help accomplish her own goals.

My main takeaway from this season is John Boy Walton playing a legit masterful villain. The Waltons was 40 years ago. Where has he been? Was he typecast? Did he take a break from acting? Richard Thomas was great in this role. He stole that scene with Wendy begging on the steps as well as the scene with Ruth and him in the hotel room.

this makes a lot of sense now that i think about it.

Show went downhill after they stopped showing the lovely ladies working at Lickety Splitz. Somewhere mid Season 3 I think

Good rundown. I also thought the Spanish speaking with no subtitles was pretentious and annoying. why don't they have Japanese speakers? Chinese? Russian? Maybe do the whole episode in Spanish.
That was just mindlessly woke bullshite, asskissing Hispanics like Spanish is the only other language in the world and giving the middle finger to English speakers for no reason other than spite.

Aside from being metaphorical, Wendy explicitly said this in one of her conversations with the cartel priest.
The priest said (something like), the car crash was a sign from God that you need to change your ways, and she said, no, it was a sign that we are untouchable (or something similar).

He was the FBI branch boss in the Americans

Agree I thought he was fantastic
Others have pointed it out but I knew the episode wasn't going to be great when Ruth just strolled up to a dark SUV knowing that a damn drug cartel was trying to kill her. I can't believe no one involved with this show was like "wait, why the hell would she do that"

It would have been better if Three had been on the trailer roof and taken her out with a rifle . . . Stepped down and walked past Ruth and said “You’re the one that doesn’t know how to act rich.”

i feel like this is in freakonomics but correct me if im wrong. it's been a while.
there was a chapter on a street gang and they were incredibly organized and had amazing records/accounting/etc...
the wire kind of does this as well with stringer, no? i didn't think this part was that crazy.
