You ever find yourself in New Orleans on a Saturday afternoon, stop in at Pal’s for a few drinks. Michelle will probably have that shite on.

Definitely doesn't need its own thread, but did anybody used to watch Game of Arms on AMC? Arm wrestling competition show. One dude on the show, Travis Bagent, has a son who's the backup qb for the Bears.

No but the Pulling John documentary on John Brzenk is pretty solid.

I like how arm wrestling is such a big deal. Lincoln is like a celebrity across the country, known by all truckers, due to his high profile arm wrestling.

It's also great that they keep billing Lincoln Hawk as being from "the trucker category" or whatever. Like truckers get their own category in huge arm wrestling tournaments.

There actually was a world wide over the top tournament held over a years time that culminated in the finals match in Las Vegas. It was done to tie into the movie.

And yes, it was split into divisions, and one of them was the truckers/teamsters division, and was won by the godfather of arm wrestling, John breznk. A lot of footage was used from the actual tournament, including when the one guy gets his arm broken.

Read this article. Really long but great read and explains a lot.

P.S. as you will read in the article, the actor who played bull hurley was an actual good arm wrestler who made the actual over the top tournament.

Finally, Screw it, let’s get pumped

I watched this movie over and over as a kid, loved it. Introduced my boys to it over the years and have watched it with them many many times also.

I am really easy to please when it comes to movies. I have always liked this movie as a kid, young adult and now old adult. I don't get too much into the details like you did, but it's a fun movie, with a great soundtrack. Kenny Loggins really made bank in the 80's when you think about it. Probably made tons as a rock/pop musician, and then he did several soundtracks for movies. He is talented as hell. And he's great live.

Thanks for this thread. I loved this movie as a kid. I want to get my wife and kids to sit down and watch it. Doubt my kids will.

My wife and I watched the Roadhouse remake the other night. She mentioned that she had never seed the original and she is a huge Swayze fan (mainly Dirty Dancing, Ghost).

I wanna see if she'll sit down and watch a few of these. Over the Top, Road House (no kids), Tango and Cash.

ETA: According to justwatch.com, Over the Top is on Apple TV+ and Hoopla with a sub, Prime/Youtube/Vudu and a few others for rent. Doesn't seem to be free anywhere.

ETA2: Tubi, Pluto, and the Roku Channel have it for free.

Anyway, great movie and is free on a couple of the streaming services.

Bought it on DVD anyway recently to watch with my teen boys. It’s so great.

What stands out to me about Stallone’s character is how patient he was with the little shite aspects of his son’s character.
It showed a level of compassion and humility that I hope to have with people.
