Solid list of Best Picture nominees this year.
Aren't all of them released in the last month or 2?

There weren't any movies from early last year that are worthy?

Don't Think Twice and Edge of 17 should be on there somewhere

Thoughts on "Arrival"

my pick for best director. Haven't seen La la land and I am huge DV fan.

One of the better sci-fi movies in a while, IMO.

Hell or High Water was July I think

And that's usually case for oscar type movies being released late in the year

How is the actor portraying the main character "in a supporting role"?

Haven't seen Lion yet, but I think he's only in the second half of the movie. First half is a young kid

Was happy to see Deepwater HOrizon got 2 nominations for Sound Editing and Visual Effects, but it could have had a couple more - Editing and Sound Mixing and maybe even Cinematography...

Horror movies rarely get Oscar nominations. I can only remember The Sixth Sense and Silence of the Lambs getting any kind of awards and those are both only borderline horror. The Exorcist got a bunch of nominations. The Shining was nominated for two Razzies. Horror and comedy both tend to be overlooked categories.

Kathy Bates won for Misery back in 1991 as well

I can't decide between La La Land, Arrival, and Manchester for best picture. Three great movies this year.

John Goodman should have been nominated. Ashton Sanders should have been nominated. Those are my two biggest gripes.

Yeah. It's an amazing story. I can't believe that happened, and that it happens a lot. I was crying my eyes out the last 20-30 minutes

I'd just straight swap Sanders and Ali. Ali was good, but Sanders performance was by far the strongest. He had to link the entire movie together. If he didn't do a good job, the entire movie would fall apart.

I haven't seen Nocturnal Animals so I can't speak for Shannon. But I'd put Goodman in there over Dev Patel or Lucas Hedges. Both of those guys were fine, but Goodman carried 10 Cloverfield Lane. In fact, I think it's some of his finest work.

I disagree. Mahershala Ali was amazing. Andre Holland and Naomi Harris were great too.

I know there's a lot of people who haven't seen Moonlight, it's a perfect film. There are a ton of great reviews out there too.
