There is way too much hype leading up to the movie. Leaks, set photos, etc. it all just makes the movie less exciting…. Already seeing stuff about Avengers Doomsday and it’s literally 1.5 years away.

I think it's fun to walk into a movie knowing as little about it as possible, discovering it as you go.

I saw Presumed Innocent (1990?) that way, only knowing that it was a legal drama. I remember sitting in the theater throughout the movie thinking "this is so AWESOME."

As for Avengers Doomsday, they should have ended it all when Endgame wrapped up the Infinity Saga. It's been (almost) all downhill since.

I agree. There's a few I can think of like that:

I was on a business trip flying back from Nigeria and the whole plane was asleep. But I never can sleep on planes to I watched "Horrible Bosses". I didn't know anything about it. I was laughing my silly arse off and trying not to wake anyone.

For some reason when The Matrix came out it wasn't on my radar at all so I didn't know anything about it other than that the dude from Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure was in it. A guy that worked for me had it on VHS and let me borrow it. He said "Just turn it on, and hold on to your arse." Boy was he right! I'm so glad I watched that with ZERO idea what I was getting in to.

I remember the lead up to the first X Men movie. No social media. No youtube. One had to search for spoilers if they wanted them.

The official X Men movie website would post a single stillshot from the movie a week. And that was all we got.

Things were much better before everything could be found within seconds.

The first X-Men did have a fun feature where you could gain access to different levels of the X-Mansion. That was pretty clever and innovative in the era of dial-up home internet.

Seeing most of Deadpool & Wolverine in social media clips kinda ruined it for me when I saw the whole movie. I understand RR hyping his movie but I think it was too much with all of the different clips.

Looks like The Naked Gun was doing the same.

Another good one for that, The Wedding Ringer. Got my wife to go see it with me because there's a Basset Hound in it (we've had Bassets for 25 years now, 15 years at the time). Wild ride!

I think there's so much competition with streaming that the only way to get people out of the house is to go watch a "sure thing". That's why franchises succeed and most other movies fail. So in order to get people to pay to see movies the marketing basically gives away most of the movie to reassure people that they'll get what they pay for.

You could certainly argue that it has the opposite effect but I think that's the logic behind their marketing. The big reveal in Companion is about 30 minutes in and was just given away in all the marketing. If people are only willing to take risks at home via streaming then you take away the risk as much as you can.

I think the crossovers were the best use of the multiverse concept (Spider-Man: No Way Home and Deadpool and Wolverine); if they had just done these and limited the number of projects it would've been a lot better.

Just do Loki, then use that as the stepping point for SM:NWH and D&W, and maybe Hawkeye to setup the Young Avengers concept.

I didn't dislike the Ms. Marvel IDEA, but they screwed with her origin and her powers (though I get that some people would just think she was just a copy of Reed Richards, so maybe they felt the need to change it). I think they could have still done that concept well.

Secret Invasion is probably the biggest comic to live action adaption failure, considering how good the comic was. Secret Invasion doesn't work unless you make it as all-encompassing, so it should have been Avengers: Secret Invasion. As a Disney+ show, there's not enough meat for that to work.

Agreed. I avoid trailers. And oftentimes even cast.

Influencers?
AKA real fans who have kept IPs going for years or even decades?

Huh.
