Chiklis' Vic Mackey is as impressive as Gandolfini's Tony Soprano.

The Shield is a better show and it's not even close IMO. Let the down votes roll.

I forget what season, but they did a teaser commercial for it with "Hurt" by Johnny Cash playing. Made me start the series b/c of it.

He was about to snitch them out.

Micheal Chiklis, who plays Vic Mackey, walks that fine line between good and bad. If anything , he's an antihero.

I never watched this when it was on but did a binge watch in a streaming service. I must say, it was definitely as good as hyped.

sounds like he was just a dirty cop who still treated his family well, similar to Tony soprano or Walter white. Make no mistake if you’re working in the mob, killing undercover agents, or cooking and distributing meth, you are not a good guy or antihero.

Of course I'd think differently if he was some a-hole living in my neighborhood, as opposed to being a corrupt but still entertaining fictional dude on TV...

Been a little while since watching it, maybe it's time for another binge!

Vic swings between antihero and dirty cop depending on the situation.

They get a cut of dealing in Farmington but he sells it to himself as it being a way to control violence in the area by preventing turf wars. When those happen anyway, he figures out who would handle things the way he wants and arrange a “change in management”.

And OTOH, he arranges several crimes to benefit the Strike Team which have repercussions for the rest of the series such as robbing a bunch of mobsters, which causes its own set of problems when they start trying to figure out who got their money.

Yeah, that scene was both powerful and a major source of black humor at the same time as the people involved figure out exactly what kind of guy Vic is.

And some of the scenes with Mackey and Forest Whitaker are some of the best I have ever seen.

Best acting of Forest’s career and it’s not even close. The scene where he realizes Vic is watching him and his wife… Jesus.

I've been watching this. Didn't watch it back in the day. Good show. Hate the theme song.

Don't care for Julien. Too much of a bitch & rookies don't get that much leeway. The storyline with Tomas sucks. FF thru that silly crap.

Vic is your typical corrupt pos cop. Not many redeeming qualities on the show.

What makes it better is the knowledge that there wasn’t originally a wife written into the show…

They noticed Forrest was wearing his wedding band during the shoot and started spitballing “why would someone not married keep wearing their wedding band?” since the character was intended to be single and they came up with his estranged ex-wife he still cared for despite her being crazier than a shithouse rat.

If not for Shawn Ryan writing the third episode of the first season to feature him, Goggins would have been fired by order of FX who didn’t see anything in him at the time.

They came to see differently during the show, hence why he has been on so many other FX shows.

Wow I had no idea about that. What a save, especially considering how his wife reverberated throughout the show. Thx.

Always liked Dutch

His character always had the most beaten down, carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders look to him

- I watched the shield on dvds rented from Netflix 2 at a time.. I’d hurry up and watch the first disk to get it back in the mail so the next disc would be coming quicker so I wouldn’t have to go several days of waiting in between discs

Never watched it. Heard great things. I remember watching commish with my parents as a kid. I assume I would like it because he’s great in everything.

Last time I saw him was for HBO Winning Time as the Boston Celtics owner

can only see Anthony Anderson as Antwon thanks to that show. He was so good.

I bring this up when someone talks about Anthony.

This role ruined me for him doing comedy or being funny.

He did that well in it.
