One of the greatest cop shows ever made! Great cast, great acting, and superb writing.
Might be time for a rewatch.

Been trying to sell my wife on a watch of this since I’ve seen the whole thing and she wants to find a show to watch.
Great fricking cast between regulars like Chiklis and Goggins as well as guest stars like Glenn Close, Anthony Anderson, Forrest Whitaker, etc.

I hooked my wife (then GF) on it from the get. I just told her that tonight was the anniversary of the debut and she said "That was such a great show!"

Just finished a rewatch on Hulu, funny enough. That show had a grittiness that no other cop show has ever had. Great from start to finish.

I can only see Anthony Anderson as Antwon thanks to that show. He was so good.
And some of the scenes with Mackey and Forest Whitaker are some of the best I have ever seen.

Easter egg on Son's: Goggins played Venus Van Damme.

I watched a few years ago and not knowing anything about it. Was shocked by the first episode and was hooked.
I agree some of the Forrest Whitaker scenes were top notch

My ex girlfriend literally jumped and screamed when Mackey shot the other cop at the end of the first episode. Just caught her totally off guard. She was hooked after that.
Edit: and oh yea the guest stars were great, especially anthony Anderson. He usually played a funny f-up in most his roles. Well he nailed bad guy in this role.

Refresh my memory: why did Mackey kill that cop?

He sold the menacing psychopath so well. Probably the best season IIRC, but it's been a while since I watched it again.
One of the truly rare shows that didn't completely go off the rails and ended as well as it could have. So depressing.

He was a snitch.

I’ve never seen the show. So the bald headed guy is crooked?

In the movie "SWAT", when they go out to interview candidates for training/selection, they talk to a beat officer who they deem to be too much of a stickler for the rules, too clean, etc.
Same actor. Makes me wonder if it was an intentional reference to the only non-dirty cop on the team in the beginning of The Shield.

It is somewhat limited by the language constraints of FX. With that caveat, and I know this is a strong statement, Chiklis' Vic Mackey is as impressive as Gandolfini's Tony Soprano.
That's not a slight to Gandolfini, it is a compliment to Chiklis.

Yes, no, maybe.
It was one of the earlier shows to walk that line between "this guy is a total psychopath but he also does some good things and seems human."
