I’ve been watching these recently before they leave prime and so far I’ve seen guns of navaronne, Lawrence of Arabia, Zulu and am about to start bridge over the river Kwai. So far I believe Zulu is my favorite but I’ve enjoyed all of them. Zulu reminded me of a western though so it didn’t quite have the same feel

Your “50s/60s” filter threw me off. I immediately started wondering when Kelly’s Heroes etc actually came out.

The dirty dozen, force ten from navaronne, the longest day.

The Dirty Dozen (1967). Equal parts awesome and funny which made for a very entertaining movie.

The Great Escape (1963)

If you like Laurence Olivier then Spartacus and Khartoum are both good and deal with different wars instead of WWI and WWII like most of the 50s and 60s movies.

Battleground is a movie about the Battle Of The Bulge that was made in 1949. It seemed like it was on tv every other weekend growing up.

What a great answer. Haven’t watched that in forever. On the list now.

The Longest Day

Certainly not the special effects we see in a modern war movie like Saving Private Ryan but........just think about it. Being in the landing force storming the beaches of Normandy had to be an extremely long day

All of the ones listed so far, and I'll add a couple from the 70's, the original Midway (1976) and Patton (1970) which isn't like the others and more of a biography but is awesome.

Cliche, but the original All Quiet on the Western Front is a good watch if you can get past its age. The battle scenes are really well done and you probably won't find anything with better shock value prior to the 1970s.

It'll be in the public domain in a few years if you have no other means of watching it.

I would have never imagined The Big Red One was from 1980, but this movie has 50-60s era vibes. Still recommend.

Came to post all of these.

Never understood the ambivalence towards Waterloo. Certainly way better than Scott's effort.

Stanley Kubrick’s Paths of Glory (1957) starring Kirk Douglas. More of an anti-war movie. On Prime and only 88 minutes.
