Two different times Tom asked Goose to "speak to him" I was expecting to hear Edwards voice.... that could have been a small way to get the guy involved.
I do believe Tom asked Connelly to marry him when he went to the bar in his dress uniform, so thats prob Top Gun 3 with Rooster as the best man.

Will have to check it in the blue ray (because I will be buying this).

Really? I just thought it was him telling her he is going on this mission. She didn’t seem happy.

One of my favorite low key nods to the original was in the last sequence, with Maverick flying the F14 with Rooster. Rooster is looking behind and says “come on Mav, do some of that pilot shite!” - just like Goose says in the original.

I think you're both right. I think he told her he was going on the mission and wanted to marry her when he got back...and she didn't think he would be back.

He could have married her before he deployed on that mission so if he was killed in combat, she and her daughter would have at least gotten some military benefits from it

You have an example? All the busters I’m aware of (even the missile assisted ones) are launched by plane close to the target.

The flight scenes were intense. The opening gave me chills I love that they just recreated it with the newer birds. The only thing that really debased the movie was the F14 hijacking They probably should have had Hangman get called in like Maverick was in the first to extend the dog fighting scene but I really can’t complain because I felt the adrenaline pumping for the entire last half of the movie. I’m going to be sulking for a month for giving up on my dreams of flying after watching that

I thought Maverick sacrificing his last flares for Rooster and getting killed would have been the ultimate ending.

Stealing another plane off a bombed runway seemed too unrealistic compared to rest of the movie.

Still loved it and will go catch it again in IMAX this time! Probably last time I will step in a movie theater.

I liked that Rooster (a top gun graduate) doesn't know why the wings fold out.

And that Maverick feels the need to constantly explain G-forces to top gun graduates.

The movie had a lot of unrealistic moments.

He knew why he was folding out the wings. He just couldn’t believe Maverick was about to do what he thought he was going to do (takeoff from a taxiway).

I dont like that look. Used about four times too many.

It was good. It didnt wow me like some here. I hold such great memories of the original that it would be hard to measure up. I think what made the original so much better is that we had never seen that type of film at the time.

Now adays with CGI and the like we see things like this all the time.

I did really enjoy the movie, and will watch again

Why would they have even gotten in the plane if they weren't going to try and take off in it?

Taxiways run the length of the whole runway, why wouldn't you take off from it?

My dad and I used to fly into sun and fun airshow in Lakeland and they would use the runways and taxiways for landings and takeoffs cause it was so crowded.

Just seems like a super silly statement all around from a highly experienced pilot.

Maverick knew what he was going to do; Rooster, however, probably did not.

There was a giant arse hanger at the end of this taxiway that, if they didn't properly clear, would have killed them.

Before they got in he told him I've shot down three in this plane. I'm pretty sure they both new what the plan was.

Well you'd definitely want the wings out for a short field takeoff.

Rooster wasn’t aware that Maverick planned to take off from a shortened taxiway that featured a giant hanger at the end of it.

It was a fun movie, but it's getting ripped by fighter pilots for the dialouge and plot already. Just not realistic at all.

One said if it wasn't top gun qnd Tom cruise and was just a regular jet movie it would be compared to Iron Eagle for some of plot and dialouge. And I agree.

Now the flight footage and visuals. Absolutely amazing.

Some people will like this one better for the action, etc.

I always liked the original because outside of Maverick doing multiple things that would have got him grounded. The plot was pretty believable to things that could actually happen. The ending for example... Two planes get launched. Catapult breaks. They end up in a 2 vs what 5/6 dogfight with one getting shot down. Then another gets launched to save the day. That's all pretty believable and could happen.

The new one the whole way through they are knowingly going on a mission that would have never even been attempted the way it was.

I like docs and based on true story stuff the most. That's why I always enjoyed the original and movies like Hunt for the Red October. Things that could actually happen.
