yeah he got a really solid death episode, but it was for a character I no longer gave a shite about

so what was up with the radio transmissions? I guess that was cluing us in on who massacred that town, but how would Tyrese be able to hallucinate about it?

Hated the episode. Did not advance the story at all except for proving Tyreese is a moron. Hopefully, they needed the budget for later in the season. It felt like a filler. I can't believe this was a mid-season opener.

It's better than them ending the Beth saga on a cliffhanger over the break and using this episode to close her arc.

As for the carving on the people's heads, I can see wolves ripping people in half, but how are they able to carve things into their foreheads with no opposable thumbs?

True.

And this show has always been about how the people would react to this world. It isn't about the destination or finding a cure. The story is the people.

Showing how Tyrese was struggling with accepting the recent events of Bob, the girls, and Beth's death is what this show is.

At the beginning of the episode Tyrese was explaining how his dad made him listen to world news on the radio. His dad made him do this because he thought it was important to understand what was going on in the world and make it better. They were just trying to show how Tyrese was brought up and why he was struggling to become a "killer" in this new world.

It was not to clue you in on the massacre in the town. When he started hallucinating because of lost blood, he also hallucinated the radio. But it was just random news, nothing about the present area they are in.

That's a big NOPE.

Last night's episode was all about selling product. Seriously, 1 and a half minutes of TWD and 3 minutes of commercials... repeat for 1 hour.

I was waiting for Brody to show up with Dana brooding in the background... or Either Carrie seduces a zombie in effort to get some details on the wolves.

Yeah, it was THAT bad.

I heard that. Also it said something about a group that was violent and setting fire to things. Some the houses in Noah's neighborhood were burned (as were the people in them).

So I imagine this will be the next group we encounter.

On Talking Dead they said the voice on the radio was Rick. I'm not saying it won't relate to the rest of this season, but Tyrese was definitely hallucinating.

It was a British radio station(actually it was Andy using his normal accent.)
I don't remember them saying that but I may have missed it. I will watch again tonight.

I don't agree with this. That would be an awfully giant coincidence.

It was not Rick. It was the actor Andrew Lincoln. He was hallucinating and they did say in a way it made sense that it was Andrew. But it was not even in his Rick voice. I think they just wanted to show it was world news like his dad listened to. So they used a British guy.

I just don't recall what was said on the radio. If it is what the other poster said, then yes I don't agree with myself either. I will check it out later.

Just watched the episode and I'm sorry Ty got killed but I knew at the beginning of this season when he let Kyle Busch's frittata twin brother live he had gone full blown puss.

There was something in there about violent machete attacks.

Of course that could have been taking place in "real-world" Mexico or Africa.

Only thing I can find in reviews is one saying it was events that Tyrese has seen since the apocalypse started.

Hopefully it wasn't anything about this new group because that would make no sense.

it could have been Tyreese remembering the radio transmissions he heard in the beginning of the outbreak.

He was dying and had been around Rick for awhile, so the radio transmission was coming in through a voice that sounded somewhat familiar I guess

I just don't think the episode fit with normal Walking Dead styles. I woulda rather seen the storyline progress than see the hallucinations. May have worked with a more important character. Or one I cared about more.

I think this was the biggest thing for me. As much as I wanted to love Tyrese, I just didn't. I kept wanting him to step up and be the badass that we all think he's capable of being, but damn near every single time, he made wrong choices. The one part of the hallucinations I did like was Martin telling him basically "I told you so" (although I did want to slap the gum out of his mouth). He told him that if he kept up like he was, then he would be the one to die in teh ZA, and he was absolutely right. Instead of being smart about things in a situation like that house, Tyrese is daydreaming and staring at pics despite "live" zombies being in the house. He knew about the twins, and knew that the house had (very audible) walkers in it. It's just that his naivete' and carelessness finally caught up with him.

Tyrese has annoyed me for a while now. So I guess if I'd have had a deeper connection with the character then perhaps I would've enjoyed this episode more. But I didn't. And on top of that, I just didn't think it was a great episode to start the new season (half-season) with.

it's not even in the TOP 10 did you forget season 2 and season 3

Of course not. But as slow as some of those episodes were, some of them were still pretty good. This is definitely up there with the worst for me.

But keep in mind that I love the show, so the worst episodes of TWD are still solid TV.

The radio broadcasts were all referring to things Tyrese had seen Ricks group do or experience. It mentioned the machete, cannibals, etc.

First commercial didn't come until like the 23 minute mark if I remember correctly

Here's the breakdown (rounded up and down accordingly)

4 minutes for initial scene/theme
***90 seconds of commercials***
16:30 of air time
***4 minutes of commercials***
4 minutes of air time
***4 minutes of commercials***
4 minutes of air time
***4 minutes of commercials***
6 minutes of air-time
***4 minutes of commercials***
8 minutes of air-time

Air-time: 42:30
Commercials: 17:30

Overall, the time was about on par with any other show, but that whole 4 minute/4 minute break thing was ridiculous.
