Just finished Deliver Us From Evil. I enjoyed it, some very tense scenes and decent jump scares. Demon and exorcism stuff doesn’t really scare me, but it was still a good movie. Eric Bama is always good and it might be Joel McHale’s finest bit of acting.

Edit: Followed this up with Fallen, the Denzel Washington movie from a few years ago. Good movie too, again not quite scary but tense and suspenseful. My only gripe was they had 3 or 4 instances of narration that was just completely unnecessary. Other than that, very enjoyable.

I think I’m going to watch scream at work today. I tried to get through VHS 85, but was also trying to multitask. I’ll have to give it another go when I can pay attention.

I just watched Sausage Party for the first time on Netflix. The kitchen scene is pure horror.

Edit: Here it is, the kitchen massacre: youtube.com/watch?v=HkJezWe8naI

Just search YouTube for Alex Kister, go to TMC Vol 1, select play all.

Yep, one of my more popular ones

I also just struggled through VHS 85 and finished it last night. Not a huge fan. I liked the first section but it had no conclusion. Are they just immortal now? Wikipedia tells me I missed something

The Mexican one I just had a hard time paying attention to it.

The performance art one was boring

The massscure one I just didn’t get. I guess it’s connected to the lake one per Wikipedia?

The Dreams one was fine.

The wrap around was kinda dumb

I stopped after the Mexican one. I liked the lake part, though.

I’m just glad to see that someone else watched when evil lurks. I really, really loved it. None of my friends watch spooky shite so I could only recommend it here.

Watched this one last night and today. It was solid. I agree that Bana and McHale were good in it.

I felt like it sort of ended a little abruptly, but its ending was decent, which is better than most movies in the paranormal genre.

Just finished Slotherhouse on Hulu, and honestly, it's not too terrible.

Yes, it's dumb, but it's supposed to be. However, it's not low-budget garbage. The production value was pretty good. Definitely better than on a movie like Zombeavers.

We watched Slotherhouse other night. The sloth was hilarious, and the plot was ok, but there was too much sorority house stuff was pretty awful.

Watched Kill List last night. It was just okay, and once I got to the end I swear I've seen this before (but don't remember when).

I'll say that this movie takes FOREVER to get to the actual "horror" part. It's literally basically the last 5 or 10 minutes of the movie. Up until that point it's more of a straightforward thriller (or even action) movie.

I guess had I gone into it not expecting it to be an actual horror movie, I would've liked it more. So while it was decent, I was more disappointed than anything.

This is correct.

The first time I watched it, it was on Netflix and I thought it was just some hitman movie.

One of the things about Kill List that gets it so much praise is that it has 3 separate tonal portions. There's a family drama, a hitman-thriller, and then folk horror, and how that's all mixed and woven in together is why it's so well regarded.

My thread from 2014 on it

quote:

if you are in a dark mood or seeking out a dark movie. it's a cross-genre movie, based around the crime genre, building into a thriller, and ending as a horror film.

this is just a creepy, atmospheric movie that slow burns into high tension leading to a crazy final portion

Starting watching this and it took me 2 minutes to turn on CC. Like needing subtitles for a non-english film.

Cooties was on the other night. Such a fun movie. On Max, Cinemax & Roku.

The Strangers slips in and out of my top 10 all time. Netflix & AMC+
It’s one of those horrors that could actually happen to you tomorrow kinda like The Town That Dreaded Sundown.

The Strangers: Prey at Night Is watchable on Starz.

I have high hopes for a new The Strangers trilogy beginning next year.
Starts with Chapter 1 and brings back the most unsettling knock in horror.

I never understood the praise for Kill List. The tonal shift didn't make any sense and it was just boring.

Watched a German movie called Goodnight Mommy last night. Its about two boys and their mom. She just had some kind of surgery that requires her entire head to be bandaged up to recover and the boys aren't sure that's really their mom. Gets pretty unsettling about halfway through. There's nothing too shocking, and a bit of a twist at the end, but enjoyable overall. Its on Tubi if anyone's interested.

I believe it’s also based on several true stories. One in Louisiana maybe (?) and also the Keddie Cabin Murders.

The Strangers is excellent IMO. Absolutely great horror movie, especially because it’s so plausible (crazy people terrorizing a house for fun).

Yeah if it would’ve just picked a genre it could’ve been good. But it made no sense, especially the family drama part. The end/horror part was also really rushed and felt like it ended with a whimper, even despite the twist which should’ve been a punch in the gut.
