Not horror at all, but watch Toast of London if you haven't. Another Matt Berry show that is just fantastic.

Two more recent ones that I enjoy when it is Halloween season. Just gets me in the mood since they both revolve around haunted house attractions. Neither were like blockbusters or anything, but good Halloween season movies. For B movies, not too bad.

Nice ones! Yeah some movies really just bring about that Halloween feeling, the trick or treating, the costumes, the candy, here’s a good one that’s fun.

Just watched Anything for Jackson (on Shudder).

Really solid/good, but not at the really good/elite tier.

Summary: A couple kidnaps a pregnant woman to do a Satanic rite so that their dead grandson (Jackson) can inhabit the fetus and be born again.

The direction and acting was very good, which is rare for a Shudder original. The guy who played Death in Supernatural is the lead.

My main issues is that they didn't seem to play it straight and there was kind of a horror comedy vibe. For a movie that should be evil, it didn't quite want to fully commit. The director-writer definitely inserted levity and I think none was needed. This is where When Evil Lurks shines. It FULLY commits. Baskin, too, but it's a bit much for people.

I actually watched that last night on tubi. Thought it was ok. Good setup but didn't quite go all the way with it.

What's your favorite 90s Halloween family movies? Nostalgic vibes with Hocus Pocus and Addams Family.

Baskin just wasn’t very good IMO. I liked what it tried to do. And you’re right, it was committed for sure. I just didn’t care for it. But the overly gory shite has never resonated a lot with me sans a few exceptions.

Have to throw Casper and Halloweentown in the mix.

Under Wraps, Beetlejuice, Ernest Scared Stupid are some others.

It may not fit the bill entirely, but I like the lore behind Cry Baby Lane, an Are You Afraid of the Dark film shown at Halloween only once on Nickelodeon starring Frank Langella. It was so scary that Nick never showed it again, thought to be a lost film until a VHS turned up at an estate sale that had recorded its airing. Here's the full video for ya:

Here are a few more:

The Little Vampire - that kid from Jerry Maguire befriends a family of vampires

The Phantom of the Megaplex - Mickey Rooney and some kids solve a mystery in a movie theatre

The Witches - Anjelica Huston stars in a classic Roald Dahl tale

Gremlins 2: A New Batch - I mean, it's not classic Halloween vibes, but it does have an old horror host and is just a bat shite and awesome good time.

The Monster Squad - it's from 1987 but it's a basically the Goonies meets Universal Monsters featuring all your favs Dracula, The Mummy, The Creature, Wolfman, etc. Frank Dekkar is the man and he weaves a really fun tale. One of the kids does call another kid a fig early on so beware of that I guess lol.

Finally got to WNUF Halloween Special last night, been on my list for awhile. I’m almost certain it was a rec from here, I went in pretty blind

Man it was fricking awful. I get the nostalgia angle, and I’m 41 so it was no doubt geared to my age group, Yes the commercials, presentation was very authentic; but the constant breaks every few minutes waiting for something to actually happen. It just pissed me off more than anything. Couldn’t imagine sitting through that crap again. Woof

You watched the sequel. I think the original was recommended. I agree, the sequel was not good. Here’s one that I think you will dig if you haven’t seen it yet, Ghostwatch. It was a live production from the BBC. It’s a well done live haunted house flick.

And if you’re down for a BBC double feature, check out The Woman in Black. No, not the crappy remake with Harry Potter, but the OG tv movie from the BBC. A wonderful Victorian tale of horror. Slow paced but if you get into the story, the scares do payoff. Here’s the full movie:
