I watched Unfriended a couple of nights ago because it was on the Criterion Channel. It was actually pretty good. The entire film is a Skype call between friends so that might annoy some. It gets more and more intense as the film plays out. I would recommend it.

And if you want to see a real life horror show play out live, just watch any Saints game, particularly when they’re on offense. This one’s for the masochists only.

If you need your Scarecrow fix, “Night of the Scarecrow” is worth the watch

No, not “Dark Night of the Scarecrow”.

Jeff MF Burr’s 1995 “Night of the Scarecrow”

You get a badass Scarecrow
90s gore and practical effects
A warlock orgy
Stephen Root

Yeah if it would’ve just picked a genre it could’ve been good. But it made no sense, especially the family drama part. The end/horror part was also really rushed and felt like it ended with a whimper, even despite the twist which should’ve been a punch in the gut.

So I finished watching it and you are correct. My biggest gripe (besides not understanding a fricking thing they said) was no explanation. No sense of cohesion. What happened in Kiev? Who were the people on the Kill List? What was the symbol and cult? Felt like they wanted a Dusk til Dawn type movie where it switched gears midway through. Also, the ending reminded me of a poor mans version of Hereditary even though it came out before then.

I thought the second one was better. It's not supernatural but actually more unnerving because there might be people out there that can do the shite they were doing.

Yeah that's a good point too. We get literally no backstory or explanation of really anything. Why Jay and his wife fight so much, Kiev, the list (and they even killed someone NOT on the list), the cult, any sort of backstory with Jay and Gal, why Jay's wife was smiling/laughing at the end (was she in on it and happy that he had killed their son??), etc.

Maybe not quite horror but definitely a thriller, I watched The Cell last night with Lopez and D'Onofrio. Visually a great movie, tense and suspenseful. Lopez was good, Vince Vaughan was good, D'Onofrio was great. MILD SPOILERS - there is a pretty gaping hole in the plot that kind of undoes the movie if you think about it. But I wonder if the “hole” was originally a twist because some of the dialogue. A more ambitious director might have woven that plot point into something that would have really left the audience guessing at the end of the movie.

Also started watching Dracula II because I enjoyed its predecessor, Dracula 2000. Turned it off about halfway through. Just boring.

That's a large part of the point

That's when you realize that the cosmic horror supersedes all the other genres when it comes together in the final act.

The Strangers is excellent IMO. Absolutely great horror movie, especially because it’s so plausible (crazy people terrorizing a house for fun).

I’m going to be contrarian and say that it’s awful. Unless there is a supernatural element to the slasher being unable to be defeated, I hated the fact that the killers in this movie were just slow and methodical even when faced with weapons. You’re Next was a much better slasher film, with the added bonus of the prey turning the tables on the predators.

I haven't been able to watch a movie in a bit, but I got an opportunity and put on A Wounded Fawn, which sounded up my alley (psychological horror, mythology, and serial killers). It sucked and I turned it off halfway.

Funny you say that, because I didn’t care for You’re Next at all.

With The Strangers, I got annoyed with a few of the actions by the main characters, but accepted it within the framework that there wouldn’t be a movie if they always acted rationally and made smart decisions.

Finally got around to watching this last night. Highly recommend checking it out. Very disturbing at many parts and although somewhat predictable, still felt original.

Going to watch Saw X tonight.

Just watched Cobweb on Hulu and I can't recall a recent horror movie with more plot holes.

The scarecrow poster reminded me of a movie I haven’t seen in years.

Pumkinhead

I remember it scaring the hell out of my little cousins back in the early 90’s. Was surprised to see that it’s rated R but I don’t think it’d be a bad movie for kids who like horror.

It’ll be on AMC Wednesday night. Stan Winston directed it so the effects aren’t bad for a low budget.

hard to find truly scary movies. Not campy horror/comedy. Not gory movies or just torture porn. Movies that are just scary.

I just watched The Outwaters and that movie was a pretty good mindfrick

The ending is disturbing

I’ve been a huge Tremors fan. It’s not really scary it’s just entertaining

Tremors 2 was the only one somewhat scary.

I was upset they cancelled the Sci-Fi series back in the early 2000s it was pretty good. Burt is one of my favorite movie franchise characters ever

It’s not scary at all. But it’s one of my favorite movies of all time. A buddy of mine and I watched it almost every weekend when we were younger. I can damn near quote it start to finish.
