I was pleased at how they broke from the traditional Joker story arch. I was expecting him to jump off into a life of crime, and then develop a copycat following. And that's not what happens. Most of the development from Man to Joker happens basically in isolation. He's entirely disconnected from the social protest movement that's developing along a parallel tract. So he seems kind of astonished that he becomes the face of the movement. It's like the Reluctant Anti Hero.

I thought it ended rather abruptly. I think it could have used another 15 mins to flesh out the Joker in his new role as the centerpiece of the Gotham Antifa.

Just got out. Really good and I really enjoyed the Wayne Easter eggs. It was a refreshing take on a character that’s been done millions of times

Whoever said there jaw was on the floor the whole movie nailed it. I constantly caught myself with my mouth hanging open. The descent into madness was absolutely astonishing and like you guys said, weighed very heavily on you the whole movie. It was a little slow, but gripping nonetheless.

Second viewing tonight. My entire body wasn’t clenched this time around. It went by a lot faster.

The T and W on Thomas Wayne on the envelope Penny addressed is the same T and W on the photo of her that “Thomas” signed. She definitely forged that.

Besides the Excalibur posters outside the theater (in BvS the movie the Waynes see is Excalibur instead of Zorro) you can see a poster for the movie Arthur. Nice touches.

Fiancé and I just got out. Really loved it. Still partial you Ledger’s portrayal, but this is either tied or a very close second. They’re 2 totally different types but I still love both.

I love how it’s left open at the end to begin the Pattinson films. They could or they couldn’t. I’d like to see them build off of this one.

Joaquin Phoenix is the best actor in Hollywood and has been for a long time.

I just fricking loved it. It actually made me feel bad for a homicidal maniac. Deniro didn't deserve to die, but I didn't feel bad when he was killed. Just like that Wayne employee who originally got away. It wasn't right that he was killed, but I didn't feel bad either.

Little Gary survived

I was going to feel real bad if he got whacked.

That was a fantastic scene. I thought joker was going to kill him. That scene got a huge reaction in my showing.

I hope they do. Phoenix's Joker doesn't really become fully realized until the last 20 minutes or so of the film, and he's mesmerizing every second he's on screen.

I just wish we had more of that. They've said this is a standalone film, but given that this film is going to pull close to $200 million worldwide in its opening weekend, I really hope that makes them reconsider.

They could set up something special here with Phoenix reprising the role in a more connected series of films.

They are going to have a hard time getting Phoenix to agree to come back, he has no desire to do franchise films

That’s not true. He was going to be Dr. Strange but refused to sign a multi-picture deal.

Exactly Joaquin is not signing up for sequels. It would be cool to see one more, but it ain't happening.

You two need to either get married or decide to become each other's arch-enemy. Pick one and move on.

I don't remember seeing that little person in anything else, but he fricking nailed that scene. Everything from the initial shock, the sheer terror, and the realization that he needed Arthur's help to get out of there.

I tell you what, that horror/humor of realizing that he couldn't reach that door chain was a much needed comedic release for the audience.

Saw it today and thought it was great. I was expecting more Batman related Easter eggs though. One of the detectives interviewing him could have been Gordon, they could have had Jack Ryder as one of the reporters, maybe a Hugo Strange cameo at Arkham, just a few little touches like that would have been nice. This story didn't need to be about Joker or set in the DC universe. Other than Joker and the Wayne family I didn't notice any other Batman related lore.

Also thought it was kinda weird that Joker is about 35-40 years older than Bruce. I never thought of Joker as an old geezer going up against Batman. I also don't see this version of Joker as a criminal mastermind down the road. He's got the motive of being resentful of society but he doesn't seem like the type to plan out big crimes.
