Fans of the movie - where you more impressed with Hathaway or Hardy?
I was more of a fan of the 80 year old white bearded dude that was right there every time Bruce went to climb up the rope.

howdy, I'm back for more
for me, one of the few bright spots of this movie was Hathaway's Catwoman. I thought she straddled the mix of realism vs cartoon the best in this movie. Not quite on a par with the sociopathic Joker from the second movie, but better than Bane in this; better than Scarecrow or Ra's al Ghul in Begins. Felt like she, alone, would have lured Batman back out of retirement after she messed with him by stealing the pearls (granted, that would have been a different movie if it was just her and a bunch of corporate crooks and bland terrorists).
If you broke the plot more to Bruce is in a funk early, and they face Bane more later, I could see some good action between Batman and Selena. Bruce could "catch her," but only as Batman, and seeing as he's more a public enemy than she is (early movie), makes for some tricky shadow works for Bruce. So they joust a bit but eventually he can't bring her in, since he doesn't want to go public again. And he doesn't just knock her out to leave for the cops because she's more a stealthy burgler than a violent thug, and that clashes with his sense of justice. Besides, he might not even want to beat her, just feel alive again, and she's making him have to think for the first time in 8 years. Maybe he even intends to use Batman to "scare her straight".
Something like this might make her more open to Bane's offer to take Wayne down, since it lets her slip away before the Batman can get her. Would lead into Bruce taking more interest in life again, making him more vulnerable to Tate/Talia (because he can't get Selena, who sneers at Bruce and fears Batman). Talia could then feed the info she legitimately gets from her seduction of Bruce to Bane, so we see (later) THATS how he knows where everything is. Talia stabbing him would be more of a bitch to Bruce, and Selena at some point, realizing what she's done (and why Batman suddenly got on her arse), swaps over to Batman's side.
There are hints of this in the plot. Bruce re-enters both the world at large and the Batcave after Selena rips him off, and he's more intrigued than angry.
Maybe it was 2 stories at first, catwoman being the 3rd and Bane the 4th, and the 2 got merged.

I will say this, though. There were at least two instances in the film where I said to myself "WTF?". The first was when Gordon knew there was a guy named Bane down in the sewers. There could be some deleted scenes or dialogue that was left on the cutting room floor but that doesn't matter because it isn't in the final cut and therefore is not canon. How the hell did Gordon know what the masked man's name was? Come on Nolan...you're smarter than this.
The worst gaffe though comes toward the end of the movie when Batman rescues Gordon out on the ice. He asks where Miranda Tate is and Gordon tells him she's at City Hall with Bane. But Batman should have known this because he literally saw her there two scenes before that one.
Those are really the two biggest problems I had with the movie. I also didn't like how it didn't show how Batman survived the nuclear explosion but I was able to get over that rather quickly because I didn't want him to die in the end anyway.
So there....all those who believe I think this movie to be perfect. There are two somewhat big flaws I found in the movie. But it does nothing to reduce how much I liked the film. It's definitely not the best film of the trilogy but it sure as hell is my favorite.

I feel like for 50 or so pages now me and you have defended the movie more than anybody. But even the flaws you just mentioned really rent that bad. Even those could be reasoned out though. Gordon knows there's a criminal that's been rumored in town or something. There are thugs working for him and it's impossible to keep a secret. Gordon is obviously high up there and if there's a criminal rumored to be in town, even if you've yet to see him, mypumcouldnt could know his name. And for the second, Batman is just double checking
I have issues with the movie too, but even with some issues it doesn't not make it a fantastic movie to me.

I would assume he knew it from being dragged through their sewer headquarters. It's not a reach to conclude he overheard the name Bane once or twice from the guards. He was dazed but still conscious.

At this point, Gordon doesn't know he's Bruc. Plus, they took her to city hall for the trial and may have moved her

by saying that, I meant like it felt Bruce was gonna go Batman on her after she ripped him off.
better?
quote:after Wayne discovered Selena in his private chambers, and learned that she was able to break into his safe, steal his mother's pearl necklace and obtain his fingerprints, there appeared to be implications that Wayne was motivated to resume his role as the Batman. Among these implications were the utilization of the Batcave's computers to research Selena's past, and Wayne's subsequent re-entry into Gotham's social scene in pursuit of her. Both of these actions represent a change in Wayne's prior behavior, as evidenced by the statements that Wayne had become a recluse and the Batman had not been seen since the death of Dent.
speak English please.
better?

OK just saw the movie, I'm not about to read 76 pages. Can someone give me the board POV on what they will do from here? It seems like its set up to continue, but I feel like BW has reached his story arc; they aren't just gonna drag him out of retirement again are they?

Ok just saw the movie. Really enjoyed it. There were a few moments that felt kinda..empty I guess but still thought highly of the movie.
Obviously there was only so much that Hardy could do with Bane but I think he nailed it. Holy shite at the look in his eyes during his speech.
I think I liked the idea of Bane's character more than the joker but Ledger's performance was just too good. The first scene of TDK sold me. The joker could control chaos like no other.
Anyways awesome movie. I'll probably go see it again.

Just saw it again with a friend.
My main gripes are still there.
However, those who bitched about the state of the uniforms of the cops needs to STFU and watch it again.
They are messed up, torn and dirty. It's actually rather striking how different the Commander's dress uniform was in comparation. To the point that I'm sure there was a point do it, although I dunno what.
And no, the light changes in Batman's face look nothing like underwater, nor can I see where you were coming from in saying that.
If it wasn't for the fact that the air looked clear, I would say it was just him punching through fog because thats what it exactly looked like.
He is confirmed to be in the cockpit before the bridge however.

Wow, haters are REALLY stretching for reasons to dislike this movie

It is not a trivial shot and lighting is a pretty big part of a movie. It is so noticeable that it is not a mistake. The fact that the light changes and moves over his face like 5 times is probably due to the fact that water moves so light is scattered and seemingly moves as well. The rapidly moving light patches are referred to as "crinkled light"
I'm not stretching here and the DVD will vindicate me (thread bookmarked)
ETA: I'm not the only person to see this either.

I'll probably sneak in one more time just to see that one sequence.
I didn't see scattered light.
At all.
I saw shadows.
And pointing out other people isn't really evidence, because I don't remember anyone saying they saw it too on their first viewing. They saw your explaination and then noticed the shadows in a subsequent viewing, and took it as explaination
As of now, I'm saying I didn't see it, and I was looking for it. May turn out to be wrong but I'm not going to pretend to see something I didn't.
All I saw was something like quick shadows from passing through clouds (even though he was flying too low for that....fog is possible).

Don't know if this has been posted, but a good article in Forbes on the meaning of JGL's fate in TDKR

I only noticed it because I was focusing so much on the shot of the cockpit and the the lighting was distracting me. In a millisecond I went from internally complaining about the lighting to "oooooh"
I need to see it again but such obvious lighting was probably intentional since that scene is going to be watched and scrutinized 50,000,000 times over, and they had to know that when they put it in the script. It may not be underwater, I'll admit, but it's intentional and important to the ending.
