Man I miss Blockbuster.
Nothing like getting out of school on a Friday and figuring out what we were going to play and watch that weekend.

I would think this would help streaming companies get more views. There are probably a lot of movies available that don’t make the algorithm recommendations than people realize.

My BIL made this exact thing for his server. I honestly need to ask if this is his or not, because he showed me this like 6 months ago.
But his looked better and felt more immersive. You can walk around (with footstep sounds). And ask the clerk for recs and they would answer.
And his has movies playing on the TV on the ceiling.
And new movies were featured on the back wall or in large displays.

We traded memorable, meaningful experiences for forgettable convenience.
Going to the Blockbuster was a fun event, usually involved whole family, you had to discuss your selection and lobby for it.
I remember trips to Blockbuster with certain dates and the movies we picked etc.
All of those moments are gone now. Everything has been streamlined into completely forgettable "efficiency"
Same exact shite is happening in video games right now.
Nothing feels tangible or real anymore in the digital age. It's all disposable, meant to be consumed and immediately discarded or forgotten.

I miss seeing a cool VHS or DVD cover and then reading the back to see if it's a movie I'd like. Of course I'd see if it was rated R for nudity.

Hopefully they add titles onto there, because Reelgood is far superior for tracking shows & movies seen/interested in.

It's a lost social space in a way b/c you'd often run into people you knew also looking for a movie and it was common to ask staff and even strangers what all they'd seen while you were looking around.
That said, while I worked at a Blockbuster in college I always preferred renting at Hastings b/c their selection was way better.
