It’s kind of funny how bad ted bundy actually was at being a serial killer but got away with it for so long because of how awful law enforcement training was back then

He would’ve been busted in two seconds if it were today

I mean...that has more to do with the fact that detective work and forensics have come a long way since the 1970s. Also...in this age of mass media and almost instant communication, it's much easier for law enforcement officers to put the individual pieces together.

Mark Harmon played Bundy in the 80s, the deliberate stranger. It was good and pretty dark.

The rock music was unsettling. Other than that, it looks pretty good.

You had counties in Washington that were 20 minutes apart from each other that had no idea similar crimes were being committed in each other

Not to mention they got the make model and color of his vehicle, narrowed it down to about 70 cars in the entire US that fit that description, and had tips telling the cops to investigate him when they released that and still couldn’t figure out it was him.

And that wouldn't happen today. Social media and the internet has made that all but impossible.

That kind of shite happens all the time. I mean, shite, the FBI knew Ramzi Yousef and his crew were about to hit the World Trade Center in '93, days before it happened, and still couldn't stop it. Six people were killed and hundreds of more were injured and all of it was 100% preventable.

Didn’t know Ted Bundy was killing women and killing it at the gym.

There's a theory that his knowledge of the law enforcement agencies and their hesitance to work together aided in his plans. Kill in different jurisdictions and they won't share evidence and build a solid profile.

I don’t think he was that bright.

He was considered very bright in addition to being a sociopath. He graduated from UW and went to law school for a time before dropping out

Not off of some criminal genius, but again by incredibly incompetent law enforcement.

Okay man. Serial killers were escaping left and right in the late 70’s. I guess I missed that.

Escape number 1 he was unchained completely in the courthouse and completely unsupervised and jumped out the window and ran into the woods

Escape number 2 he escaped thru a hole above his light in his cell and walked right out the front door of the jail.

You’re oversimplifying his escapes. He was a murderer on trial who convinced guards that he didn’t need to be closely supervised. He jumped 25 feet from a second story window.

He climbed up in a cell with a 10 foot ceiling and measured the hole that held the light fixture. He starved himself for weeks until he lost enough weight to squeeze through the hole, made his way to the guard quarters and stole a disguise, and then walked out.

Even after two escapes and being placed in special lockdown in Florida, he convinced the judge that he needed to be allowed special access outside of his cell in order to work on his defense.

This wasn’t a slow or unintelligent guy.

The same thing was happening all over the country back then. Different jurisdictions never shared information about crimes committed in their area with surrounding jurisdictions.

When Manson's followers did the Tate/LaBianca murders in 69 there was little cooperation between LA county and the surrounding area police forces to try to solve the murders.
