Who should play Freddy?

quote:

The studio has inked a deal with the estate of Wes Craven to revive the Freddy Kreuger horror franchise and will release it via its newly launched Paramount Primal label.

Paramount Pictures has closed a deal for the U.S. rights to the original screenplay of A Nightmare on Elm Street, the movie written and directed by Wes Craven that kicked off the popular horror franchise featuring the killer with the metal-claw gloved hand and burned face, and will adapt it into a new feature.

The new Nightmare on Elm Street will hail from Paramount’s new genre label, Paramount Primal, led by J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules, the producers behind films such as Barbarian and Friendship.

Different than Englund I know but there’s a way about him that might lend itself to the character.

Make Freddy the evil killer he was in the original. Liked him better without the comedy.

I saw something that said Jim Carrey may be interested he's always liked Freddy movies and likes the sadistic comedian later sequels.

quote:

Director Chuck Russell, who directed A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors and worked with the actor on The Mask, floated the idea of casting Jim Carrey as Freddy Krueger. Russell suggested that Carrey's physical elasticity and knack for dark comedy would make him a twistedly fun successor to Robert Englund.

While the idea of Jim Carrey taking over the fedora and bladed glove sounds like a wild departure, horror fans and critics agree that it could tap into the malicious, cackling dark humor that defined the original Freddy. However, director Chuck Russell and fans alike note a few key stipulations for this casting to ever work:

Jackie Earl’s version was terrible. Couldn’t take it seriously. I don’t think anyone is ever going to touch Rob’s version.

If I had to pick someone, it would be that creepy fricker in a lot of Rob Zombie movies..Richard Brake He knows how to play dark and sinister better than anyone right now imo.

I would imagine that Bill Skarsgård is a name that comes up.

Have always felt this was the franchise with the longest staying power in the genre.

Can't stay awake forever, and he gets you when you sleep. Great story line with him being a child molester getting roasted and then coming back to haunt the teenage children of those who did it.

Only potential downside is it encouraged a ton of caffeine and drug use to keep awake

The drug thing would be perfect for today’s Adderal, Ritalin attention span kids. Fall asleep in home room, Freddy pops in as a school shooter. Young Mr. Robinson dreams about her days ahead, Bam, Dr. Krueger shows up for his surgery. I’m just spitballing ideas, I’m not a screenwriter.
