It’s a little deeper than that. Between addictive behaviors, mind/behavior manipulation created by algorithms, destruction of democracies, destructions of the most developed societies and eventual autocracy it’s pretty provocative. I don’t find a lot of political bend either, which I expected. There is some left leaning, but it is really more of a warning against A.I.

I enjoyed it.

I think society is too far gone when it comes to social media and screens. It will just continue to get worse. And with the whole virtual school stuff this year, I feel really bad for society's kids.

I always knew social media was bad (I’m in software). This just confirmed what I already knew. Pushed me to finally delete my FB app. Good watch.

Check out the Noah Yuval Harari book “Homo Deus”, or one of his many interviews. He presents the idea that we are likely the last generations of Homo sapiens, giving way to a new species so intertwined with algorithms that they would look alien to us.

ive kinda wondered if we arent outkicking our coverage with regards to educating todays youth in technology. with such a push for everyone to go to college (which is becoming more and more a scam) and seemingly no emphasis on vocational studies for todays youth, unless automation and AI development ramps up, we are going to come full-circle where its now the blue collar skilled labor jobs that are high paying and in high demand. exactly the opposite of when the boomers came of age and college (then middle management) was a luxury.

The Social Dilemma is a must-watch. Although it's about the design of all social media, Zuckerberg in particular is a ghoul. He wields a scary amount of power but has a sociopathic disregard for anything but making money.

Here's a good companion article:

I thought the industry experts that contributed had genuine sadness and some fear with how things have evolved. It definitely seems as though the AI algorithms are primarily responsible for most of the recent craziness.

It also made me realize that this site (other than side ads) looks the same for everyone and does not pick the news to highlight for you. That's probably rare these days.

The bit with the three guys that mimic how algorithms work was done well also.
