That scene ruined that movie for me. They couldn’t use stunt doubles?

Black folks didnt live in the Wild Wild West??

Oh yeah. There are loads of them in Western history. They just left them out of movies prior to the 21st century because all of those 20th century Westerns and documentaries on the Old West were clearly racist.

“Roma”, “Old Guard”, and “Extraction” are the Netflix original movies that stick out in my mind as best. Most of their movies are boring/mediocre.

ETA: I’ll recommend “Wrong Missy” as well. It is very funny in a few places.

The Devil All the Time certainly isn't a movie that I want to watch again, but it was probably the best Netflix movie I've watched

This is a good way to put it.

All of those saying Netflix puts out movies with big stars and not a great story must have never seen the great Hubie Halloween. That one had big stars, but an even better storyline!

From the Smithsonian:

The majority of Netflix Original releases are purchased after being produced. The Sandler movies are produced in house, several of the rom-coms are, and so are one to two prestige films per year (Roma, Irishman, Mank). To say they have a house style or uniform quality is nonsense. People who say this aren't exploring what netflix releases. The quality of The Wrong Missy has nothing to do with that of The Old Guard, which has nothing to do with the quality of the dozens of Indian films netflix released in 2020, which has nothing to do with the quality of Dick Johnson is Dead.

We all see more Netflix movies in a given year than ones from Universal and Paramount or even Hulu and Amazon, so many of us see more bad Netflix movies than bad movies from those studios. That doesn't mean they release only bad movies.

In 2020, which was obviously a weird year that probably shouldn't be compared to previous years, Netflix released several quality films:

The best superhero movie (The Old Guard)
My vote for the funniest mainstream comedy (Eurovision)
One of the most fascinating horror movies of the year (His House)
An enjoyable, high quality kids movie (Enola Holmes)
One of the most unique and strange, and I think best movies of the year (I'm Thinking of Ending Things)
The best doc of the year (Dick Johnson is Dead
The new David Fincher movie, Mank, which is far from perfect but has some of the absolute best dialogue and dialogue delivery you will hear in a movie from this century.

A year from Disney or MGM with seven good movies would be considered a huge year.

At least some of the movies in that preview will probably be pretty good.

Can anyone suggest actually good Netflix movies? I feel like everything they make is hot garbage

Not saying they aren't more miss that hit recently but.....The King, The Old Guard, Extraction, Bird Box, Ballad of Buster Scruggs, Trial of the Chicago 7 to name a few.

And I would have a hard time walking away from Ozark, Peaky Blinders, The Witcher, Dirty Money, & Narcos.

Then why not make a movie about him? Why they gotta steal the white man's work?

I'm not saying Triple Frontier is a high quality movie, but I'm already paying for Netflix so if they want to feed me one of these mediocre-but-enjoyable movies a month, I would be glad to have it.

"The Harder They Fall" is not a remake.

The 1956 movie was a boxing movie

I just want to point out that many cowboys in the Old West were freedmen who traveled west looking for work in the aftermath of the Civil War.

Would've listed Mindhunter myself but unfortunately is not coming back. Which sucks. Loved that one and I felt like it was just hitting its stride.

I agree. Netflix original features all seem less than a true feature film. They are TV MOWs on steroids.

The mass exodus of content with the advent of Disney Plus, Peacock, Apple Tv, etc left them with no good content. They barely had any Christmas movies of note. Netflix is the new Blockbuster.
