Netflix’s live action Avatar: The Last Airbender cast announced with SJW messaging

Like the live action Lord of the Rings upcoming, I can’t say I’m too excited for this, but I think they did decent on the casting: Comicbook
So they’re announcing their pronouns before their titles when it’s pretty clear… haven’t Avatar fans been raped enough by M Night Shyamalan? This is going to be a nightmare even if I think it’s been somewhat appropriately cast.
Gordo Cormier as Aang
Kiawentiio Tarbell as Katara
Ian Ously as Sokka
Dallas Liu as Zuko
But yeah, putting the pronouns in front of the characters, this show is fricked. It seems properly cast (especially with Aang and Zuko) but they’re putting politics over the actual story, which is the Lord of the Rings equivalent of the Second Sino Japanese War. Like the cast, hate everything else I’m hearing about it.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is ready to give the world of live-action film one more shot. Netflix began developing a live-action adaptation of the hit animated series years ago, but little has been said about the project until now. The company took time today to announce the official cast and crew of Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender.
The announcement was put forward this morning not long after reports went live about the cast. Netflix has now confirmed who will be leading the show, so you can learn all about the stars and their roles below:
GORDON CORMIER (he/him) is AANG (12), a fearless and fun-loving twelve-year-old who just happens to be the Avatar, master of all four elements and the keeper of balance and peace in the world. An airbending prodigy, Aang is a reluctant hero, struggling to deal with the burden of his duties while still holding on to his adventurous and playful nature.
KIAWENTIIO TARBELL (she/her) is KATARA (14), a determined and hopeful waterbender, the last in her small village. Though only fourteen, she’s already endured great personal tragedy, which has held her back from rising to her true potential, though it’s never dimmed her warm and caring spirit.
IAN OUSLEY (he/him) is SOKKA (16), Katara’s sardonic and resourceful 16-year-old brother. Outwardly confident, even brash, he takes his responsibility as the leader of his tribe seriously, despite his inner doubts over his warrior skills… doubts that he masks with his wit and deadpan sense of humor.
DALLAS LIU (he/him) is ZUKO (17), a skilled firebender and the intense and guarded Crown Prince of the Fire Nation. Currently roaming the world in exile, he’s on an obsessive quest to capture the Avatar because he believes that is the only way to reclaim his life and live up to the demands of his cruel and controlling father, the Fire Lord.

I know why this is a thing ($$$) but it is not needed. The show wrapped up 12 years ago; but it's not like it's outdated. Yeah it's live action but it's still a tv series adaptation of another tv series except with a lot of CGI instead of full animation. It's not like a book to movie, book to show, movie to show, etc.
And the original show is so loved, they are going to have to blow this thing out of the water for it to be considered good in comparison.

The original creators were a part of it, but Mike and Bryan departed the project over creative differences. I suspect China has something to do with it, and if you’ve seen the series, you’d know why the CCP would have a problem with it.
But Paramount+ gave them one hell of a deal: 3 series and 6 movies similarly to what they gave to Matt and Trey for South Park. Mike and Bryan have said their next project will be a movie, followed by the Earth Avatar series. They said the deal they got will take 20 years to complete which is awesome.

The original show is a very good story that will never be watched by many people simply because it’s animated.
All they have to do to not screw this up is follow the original.

Actually Avatar holds the record on Netflix for being on the Top 10. Longer than Tiger King or any other Netflix series. Was on the Top 10 from like March to September of last year. That’s when they realized they were sitting on the next Star Wars/Harry Potter.

True

This I doubt they will do. Adaptations (except Disney adapting their own work) usually try to add in their own spin because they want to create something "new".

While I'm sure this show won't be good due to Mike and Brian leaving, what you said makes no sense. The marketing team doesn't write the storyline. Pronouns are such a tiny thing to worry about it's pointless

Have you ever run into anyone that declared their pronouns immediately that wasn’t a lunatic?

Lol settle down. Friends and The Office were by far their most watched shows for like 3 years and no one is putting them back into production.

Were they on their Top 10 for half a year? I’ve been saying for 10 years “They’re sitting on the next Lord of the Rings/Star Wars”. The idiots at Paramount finally realized it. No property has been wrongly abused as Avatar, and not the Blue Man Group. It’s a franchise that is pretty much limitless, and they finally realized it after the pandemic. They have now given them a 20 year deal to do whatever they want for God’s sake.

I don't know about his acting chops, but from looks alone Zuko looks to be very well-casted.
Like if I had to imagine Zuko as a real person, it would look just like that kid.

Aang as well. Even got the ears right. Apparently the kid playing Zuko has a major role in the next Marvel movie

Avatar didn’t do this so I’m not sure what your point is.

They aren’t but okay.

It found “success” because of the pandemic.

Shonda Rhimes got a huge deal from Netflix. Netflix gave a deal to a carrot boy and a d list woke whore.
Your fanboy is showing.

It actually did. It holds the record unless it was recently broken for the Top 10 most watched show. It’s why Paramount approached Mike and Bryan pretty much with a blank check and to do whatever the frick they wanted to. Matt and Trey got one hell of a pay for a few more seasons of South Park and more movies which I think they want to more focus on. While Mike and Bryan didn’t get paid 900 million like Matt and Trey did, I don’t think it’s out of the question they got say 50 million a piece or more. South Park is cheap to make, while Avatar is very expense. You don’t give someone a deal for 3 series and 6 movies unless they’re making a shite ton of cash for you.
EDIT: Not lying. Here’s the link and why Paramount came crawling to them realizing they abused the property pretty much from its inception when they were sitting on a gold mine: Newsweek

Umm, Mike and Bryan have said they’ve been given a deal that will take 20 years to complete. I believe they’re saying they’re doing the Earth and Fire Avatar after Korra as well as a prequel series in some other era and six movies of which they say will be in theaters. It’s one hell of a deal, and if it were just fanboys like me supporting it wouldn’t be possible.

So that’ll be like in modern day given that Korra takes place in like early 20th century levels of tech?

Yeah, maybe even earlier than our current age, maybe post War on Terror. Due to her duel with Zaheer, Korra will die early like Aang did. She had his poison in her body for over 3 years, so I don’t think it’s a stretch that it stripped 20 years off her life like being in the iceberg stripped off 20 years of Aang’s life.
But I’m guessing the Earth Avatar will be nuclear/terror related and the Fire Avatar will be Cyberpunk.

Oh it’s going to be shite, but it seems to be well cast so far which surprised me. I thought they were going to blackwash it in the name of equity.
