This was announced two years ago. Its not like they're surprising people at the last second.

Will the extra $2 cause them to have better films?

Doubtful. They chose to go away from movies several years ago, and the decision has paid off as their subscription growth has been pretty impressive. If you want newer movies the DVD by mail plan is still a good deal as well.

Don't matter. I only use it for TV series.

That equals $408 million per year or 4 House of Cards level series.

Damn I didn't realize they have almost 70 million subscribers world wide.
Think of how many they'd have if 5 people weren't sharing one account

As long as they use the additional revenue to produce more top quality programming or beef up their contracted material, I'm fine with paying more.

They've almost completely shut down VPN usage to switch regions though, not too happy about that.

Even if they didn't notify them, would someone "grandfathered" in honestly expect them to hold tight on that at $7.99 a month 5 years, 10 years, 50 years from now?

I'd like to meet the brat who would. A contract is one thing, some polite promise is another. I think it was the latter, was it not?

Have you not seen people bitch about their unlimited data plans? I'm kind of surprised there wasn't more uproar here, the interwebz exploded with outrage when NetFlix did the price increase/service split several years back.

They've been offloading their costs onto carriers such as Verizon. Now they are having to pay for more of their own costs.

I popped it on the other day and a white text message came up saying it was going to be gone May 2nd.

Apparently, they are negotiating to keep it but as of now it's days are numbered.
