the same people that hate on The Patriot’s historical accuracy jackoff to Star Wars or Marvel movies. You know superheros and walking dingleberries don’t really exist, right?

Horrible analogy. Movies like the Patriot are supposedly serious movies that are BASED on historical events and people, so you expect it to be mostly history accurate.

Movies like Star Wars and Marvels fall into the fictional category and aren’t based on anyone or anything.

Nowhere. But it's definitely inspired by historical events. Patriot is one of the GOAT American movies.

I’d love to see a movie based on The Battle of New Orleans.

300 is another good example of getting pretty much EVERYTHING wrong of an actual, historical event to tell a better story.

The Buccaneer with Charlton Heston is good, but it's older.

I view The Patriot, Kingdom of Heaven, and The Last Samurai in the same lens:

Great entertainment loosely...and I stress the loosely part...based on a historical period of time.

I particularly enjoy The Patriot because I live here in South Carolina, and always thought Francis Marion was an interesting character even as a kid.

We had little 40-50 page biography books on early American heroes when I was in grade school. I probably read the one on Francis Marion 20 times. I'd love to see a historically accurate movie on him

Holy shite

The Patriot is one of the biggest turds ever made. Just an unbelievably bad...and insulting movie.

We need way more Revolutionary War films, but we need them to be NOT like the Patriot.

When you include historical battles such as Elizabethtown, Charles Town, Camden, Cowpens, and Yorktown....your film is based on historical events. Benjamin Martin was clearly inspired by Francis Marion while Tavington was based loosely off of Banastre Tarleton. Not to mention the fact that Lord Cornwallis is an actual historical figure whose forces were stymied by those of Marion's in South Carolina.

300 is actually an adaptation of Zach Miller’s comic book on the battle. So that’s why it’s heavily dramatized, features weird coloring, and even has monsters. Plus much of the movie is told through the guy that made it back, hence why he might say the enemies have actual monsters at their command.
