Some that I've watched recently...

We Need to Talk About Kevin- Extremely difficult to watch at times but a very well-made, harrowing drama. Excellent lead performance by Tilda Swinton.

The War Zone- Pretty overlooked film from one of the best years in cinema (1999). Another film that was tough to watch but tackles a subject that is not often depicted in film. Some truly great acting here from Ray Winstone and Swinton.

Everything Must Go- Will Ferrell in a rare dramatic role as an alcoholic. I didn't expect much from this and though the film has some funny moments, it's very serious and it's one of the biggest surprises I've seen in a long time.

Hank and Mike (2008)

This movie was hilarious; my wife and I loved it. Two easter bunnies get fired and are huge assholed. My favorite is one of them flicks his cigarette into a baby carriage as he walks by.

I liked Everything Must Go and Goon. Was meh on Fish Tank. Loved Brick.

I'll add:

Get the Gringo - basically a sequal to Payback, which was awesome.

The Trip: Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon travel all over England just eating and drinking. Very funny.

The Ref: best comedy of the 90's that no one talks about.

What Planet are you From?: 2nd best comedy of the 90's that no one talks about. Sort of tails off at the end but it has so many great one liners that I didn't really care. Shandler + Goodman + Kingsley + Judy Greer's tits = win. It's not a well reviewed film, so I may be alone on this one.

Happy Accidents: very good dramedy with Marissa Tomei and Vincent D'onofrio.

Submarine: great British indie on Netflix streaming.

Owning Mahoney: based on true story, Phillip Seymour Hoffman digging himself into a deeper and deeper gambling hole.

I've got plenty more but that's all I can think of right now.

Not sure why it isn't in high rotation during the holidays. Only so many times I can watch Elf.

I know it's previously been talked about on this board (it's how I heard of it) but just in case anyone has continued to overlook it....

Tucker and Dale vs Evil is an absolute must see

Grandmas Boy. This movie got no play in the theaters, and I hadn't even heard about it until my little brother told me to watch it. I have literally worn out the DVD on my copy of it.

8mm was kind of an under the radar Nic Cage movie from the 90's.

“Trailer Park Boys” the movie was so bad it was good and worth watching. I wonder if any of the other movies they’ve made are good?

This is based off of a TV show that if you haven't seen, you should give a whirl.

Agreed. The show is way funnier than the movie.
