The old seasons are awesome. It’s basically all partying. Now it’s just strategy and scheming. They even talk strategy when they go out to the bars now.
Also, they plow through some challenges and eliminations in the old 30 minute episodes.

LoL watching old episodes now I knew Theo Von was on the challenge but never knew he was actually considered a good competitor.
I completely understand how Wes became a legend now. Corral was an absolute beast too.
Also RIP Diem's death was a tragedy. I think she may have had the flattest arse of all time.

Coral, like Veronica used to be considered a very very good girl competitor. In retrospect, Coral had a hot streak to her, but she was above average at best. She also couldn't run a final to save her life. She'd still put up a fight in eliminations today, but she'd basically be Nany mxed with Jenna with an attitude.
She was scared to go against Beth on Gauntlet III. She beat her, but it was really close. And Beth had to have been like 40.Everyone kept calling her grandma. She was on the second season ever of the Real World. I think the show premiered in 1990. That's crazy. And I think Mark Long is older than her.
And you wanna know how they used to have a daily comp and an elimination in a 30 min episode? They used go straight from a daily challenge into an elimination. The daily challenges were always something easy like "build a pyramid the fastest out of plywood blocks," then they deliberate for probably an hour or so, then spin the wheel to see what the elimination was going to be. They did it all during the daytime.
The Gauntlet was probably 1/10th the size of modern elimination stages. Maybe 20 yards by 10. It was basically all physical eliminations with one puzzle category.
The eliminations lasted about 5 minutes. Half the time, the other person gave up if went past 15 minutes or so. It was a totally different ballgame back then. Much much more fun, but nowhere near the competitive level of today.
Thats why CT never winning for so long is so crazy. Random people like Melinda has like 4 championships. CT had none until recently. Although he probably dd get kicked off about 40% of his early challenges.

Finished Gauntlet 3 last night. It's actually pretty great knowing the outcome of the season. It's one of the most stacked teams ever against maybe the weakest... And the weakest team, with half the players as the other, won by default because Big Easy died on what had to have been no more than a 3 mile run.
The losing "veteran" team had CT, Johnny, Evan, Kenny, Evelyn, Brad,?Paula and Coral. The "rookies" had Nehemiah and Frank from RW Vegas... Those were they're 2 best guys. MJ was there for about 3 weeks then lost an elimination to Frank in a physical contest. Mj probably had 20lbs on him. He played WR at Vandy. He was one of the worst competitors ever, especially for his build and athleticism.
Eazy was incoherent after a half mile swim. He even had on a life jacket and CT pulled him most of the way. They were probably a half mile from the finish line when he was carted off in an ambulance. Brad was the only one concerned with his health at all. The rest were all just cussing and crying.
Frank from RW Vegas was basically the entire team for the winners. The veteran team actually voted in Johnny early in the season to elimination and he lost. During the deliberation he told them exactly what would happen if Easy stuck around till the end... And he was 100% right.
Amazing how maybe the best finals competitor ever got thrown in. Fun watch. Hadn't seen it since it aired in like 2008. Kenny, Evan and psycho CT were the stars of the show, but basically everyone there made great television. It's pretty amazing how far the casting has fallen since then.
The whole season was 9 episodes... 2 Challenges and 2 eliminations in each.

One of the GOAT Challenge moments. Who was the girl going in raw on him?

Easily one of the worst and most overrated challengers ever. I remember one season they brought him in midseason as one of the "badass" players and we all busted out laughing at how terrible it was that he was supposed to be awesome at anything.

Frank was kind of a beast on the Challenge. I remember that one season where him and the chick he was banging (forget her name) kept getting voted in, but they both kept winning. Finally lost and went home, but between them they had won like 4 or 5 eliminations. And Frank went ballistic on the house because they kept voting in his girl.

Agreed. But at least they've dipped into the UK shows, and that has brought some solid casting to the show.
And yeah, Melinda was one of the GOATs on the show.

The girls used to be way way hotter. Melinda, Tori (Brad's ex-wife), Johanna were all better looking than anyone on today. Even Coral and Robyn had their moments where you're like.. Damn. And That's all just on 1 season.

Ev was basically dog cussing him. Robyn was crying. CT was actually really helpful with him until the very end he started yelling at him. He was very supportive of him and told others like Kenny and Evan to stop cussing him and help him.
Kenny had the best line of the show, ehme it was obvious Easy was done and everyone was falling apart he says
"She's crying, he's dying and I'm just sitting here losing all my money. I don't Know what the frick to do."

Frank was awesome. Easily one of the best players on the whole season. He was very smart and was pretty big physically. He even calmly got in CTs face near the end and talked major shite. Wasn't scared at all like most others. He just keot saying, "hit me, do something" because he wanted him to go home beefore the final. The incident ended with CT pouring a beer over Adam King's head. Classic bully jerk.
Frank and the girl he was hooking up with, Jillian, both got sent into the Gauntlet 3 times and both won them all. I think he only did a couple challenges. Looking back, he was one of the most underrated players ever. He could have been really good had he gone on more seasons.
His strategy was always on point as well, but the idiot girls on his team kept outvoting him in elimination decisions.

Agree. They're keeping the show together from an entertainment standpoint. John and Wes won't last forever.

He was part of one of my favorite moments that season.
He completely exposed Danny’s 2 face ways in that ice tub challenge at the very end of the season.
Despite everyone freezing their asses off and being miserable, he recognized the turn coat immediately and was the only one on his team not to take the deal and talked the rest into agreeing with him.
Frank then went straight to the vet team and told the remaining males that Danny tried to cut a deal with the rookies to keep him safe and throw the rest of you under the bus. Mind you, Danny did this in a challenge that the vets were trying to throw because it was a girls elimination day.
Watching Danny’s reaction to getting called out on it and him trying to deny it was great. Danny was a pathetic competitor.
Evan was the true beast of the challenge back in those days. Seems he was always winning regardless of what team or what partner he was paired with.
Watched his fresh meat season and it was great that they put the fresh meat through basically a pro day and had all their stats listed so the vets could draft their partner. Coral picked Evan simply because he had the fastest 40 yard dash time and she said something along the lines of if he can beat a black dude in a foot race, I want him
That fresh meat season was also a great season for Wes, who was a-hole Mohawk Wes that season. He got paired with Casey and they kept getting repeatedly voted into exile, but they won every single one. It was like 5 or 6 exiles. That’s when they had to carry the weight of the luggage you brought with you. They sent like half the other teams home that year.

Yes, Ev. That's right. She was awesome though. Easily one of the GOAT girl competitors on the show. Wasn't she gay?

Shocker. Kenny was awesome. And I hate that they kicked him off the show. And don't get me wrong, I get why...but it still sucks. Evan was funny at times, but I could always take or leave him.

Yeah, I always liked him on the Challenges. And Jillian, that's right. She was really good too. So this season is the one I am remembering. I may try to see if I can rewatch this, especially if it's only like 9 episodes like you said.
Where are you watching these? Is it a streaming service, a TV channel, or what..?

They start with the first season TJ hosted and have every one of them from that point forward except one.

These previous five or six posts by you and Jack are all on point.
Agree with everything about Frank, Evan, Danny, all really good posts.
Evan was definitely the beast of that stretch and was the muscle behind the Kenny and Johnny alliance early on.
I remember he volunteered to go into an elimination against CT one season. He lost, in a puzzle not a physical elim, but he was definitely not scared to put his abilities on the line against anyone.
Frank was awesome but he was the straight laced kind of guy that was never going to be brought in by the cool clique that ran the show in that era so he was always fighting an uphill battle.
Probably why he didn’t keep going back.

Or could be because of this:

And good for Frank.
Was Danny that little bitch arse dude that married Melinda? Are they still together?

Yes, if you have 247 sub you get CBS all access for free... But it has commercials. And they are frequent and long. It's a ripoff. Just sign up for the commercial free option and you'll be good for a month.
Those old 9 Ep. seasons you can knock out in 3 or 4 days easy. I just put them on in tbe background and it autoplays every episode in order.

Watching Danny’s reaction to getting called out on it and him trying to deny it was great. Danny was a pathetic competitor.
Danny was the biggest douche on the whole show. If I remember correctly, he and Wes must have been on the same juice plan... Because both of them were skinny one seasons and jacked 2 months later.
Danny also damaged Melinda and Joanna's friendship. They were all on RW Austin together with Wes and Nehemiah. The Rookie team, which Johanna was part of opted to throw Melinda into elimination against Tori. Johanna told them not to, but she was outnumbered. After Melinda got eliminated, Danny went and blamed Johanna, calling her a lying backstabber.
Meanwhile, Danny had the biggest lie of the season when Frank outed him for trying to cut a deal in the ice challenge. As someone else posted, Frank was the only one on the team that said, "no, we're not cutting a deal."
These guys were doing all this shady shite for like 30 grand. The prizes back then were a joke. Winning team got 300K split like 10 ways. Their appearrance fees were probably nearly nothing as well. I'd bet they got about $1,000 per episode, max. That's why so many treated it like a vacation. I also think they only filmed for about a month. They were competing nearly every day. The final was the day after the last boys elimination, which was also the same day they had the last challenge. They flew through the schedule.
They also used to have like 2-3 days every week of free days to go out and hang on Mexican beaches. so lots of people probably were taking vacations from their real jobs. They looked at it as a way to make a little extra cash and go to an exotic location and party.
Frank was one of the smartest players I can remember in the challenge.
quote:

I remember that season now. That's where Wes got much of his elimination record from. Back when he was a maniac and he and Kenny despised each other.
CBS autostarted The Island after the Gauntlet 3. I like the Island season, but its not as good as Gauntlet 3 and many others from that Era.
