re: MoviePass on its last legs?

So on Saturday surge pricing reached $8.00 in many places. Then around 3:00 pm PDT I tried to check in to a non-surge-priced movie and the check-in failed in the app. Later, MoviePass tweeted that they were having a "technical" issue with card-based check-in, but reminded us that e-ticketing is still good!
So that's two times in three days I went to the theater and was unable to check in to see a movie.
Later that evening, all movie showings disappeared from the app except for Mission Impossible. Except that Mission Impossible is grayed out for everyone everywhere (except in the rare places where it's playing in an e-ticketing enabled theater), so basically all card-based check-ins were disabled.
The movies are back this morning. Tons of $8.00 surge pricing again. Several morning showings of movies I would like to see are not surge priced. I might try one more time before MP really goes belly-up.
Edit:
Nope. reddit users are reporting that card-based check-in is still generating an error: "Error making reservation. Try again later. You can use MoviePass at an e-Ticketing theater."

The only movies showing near me via e-ticketing are Eighth Grade and Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot (plus a couple I've already seen). People are raving about Eighth Grade so maybe I'll try to see that.

I'm gonna try and get one more movie in before I cancel. Really wanted to see MI, but guess I'll settle for something else. Also bullshite that 80% of showings have a surge price attached. It's pretty clear they're going under any minute now.

That strange scream that you just heard was the camel's back breaking from the weight of one final straw.
Mission Impossible has been blocked all weekend. And this morning, when I went to take my grandson to see Teen Titans, the app could not process payment and advised me to buy an E-Ticket (which is not available in my area).
It's a fairly useless endeavor at this point. My options are to pay cash for movies and hope that they'll reimburse me or just see the non-popular movies that they allow me to see (plus a surge charge). That is, on the days that they're actually up and running.
They should've limped along at the $30 a month fee when there were few members and great customer service. Their big expansion routed them too close to the sun and now they're gasping for air.

I’m going to cancel before the next monthly payment.
I actually haven’t had any issues with movies being blacked out or surge pricing. I’m super averse to crowded theaters, so I only go to the movies on Sunday morning during church hours, and I only see movies that have been out at least 3 weeks.
That said, I can see that the ship isn’t sinking, and there’s really no reason to stay on board. All we have are Cinemark theaters up here, and their Movie Club deal sucks if you watch movies like I do.
I guess I’m going back to never going to the theater anymore, which is unfortunate. MoviePass really got me excited about going to the movies again. It only saved me 10 bucks a month (Sunday am movies are 5.50), but I became a Sunday regular. Oh well.

when I woke up yesterday morning, I was gonna go to the theater and get tickets for a later show when the box office opened so as to get in before the up-charges - shocker (sarcasm off) all showings for the day were up charged.
that was last straw for me - in the 3 months the wife and I have had it, it has changed so much from what we signed up for that were done with it - we both canceled this am.
I wish them no ill will, we enjoyed it for the 1st 2 months of having it, but it is ridiculous to the point that they are surge charging Sicario 2 for 6 bucks - and it has been out for weeks.

I used the app Saturday and it worked fine. My wife and I have annual memberships so there's no surge pricing. There's no reason to cancel right now as we've paid up to December so I'll see where MoviePass is at that time but I imagine we'll move to Sinemia.
Posted on 7/30/18 at 8:46 am to Phate
I havent heard of Sinemia - but i think the wife and I are just gonna jump on the AMC Alist program - the ability to see repeat viewings is a big draw.

Interesting, may have to move to this one when/if Moviepass shuts down

I've started to look into Sinemia. Apparently the pricing plans are constantly changing, and the service is a little more complicated to use than MoviePass. So one must do some research before signing up for this one.
The AMC programs are much simpler to understand and use—if your local AMC shows all the movies you want to watch.

I would just sign up with the AMC one and be done with it but i spend the majority of my time in Lake Charles and there are no AMC theaters here, both are Cinemark and their plan sucks

Was going to see Leave No Trace tonight, but it's listed as an unavailable premium showtime. It's the least popular movie out.

We'll ride it till the wheels fall off, and since we're annual subscribers, surge pricing wouldn't affect us until mid-December, but I'll be shocked if they're not tango uniform by Labor Day.
I'd much rather their coming into the "bargain" pricing at $20/mo and let the groundswell build organically to a point where it was sustainable. If they needed 5M subscribers at $10/mo, then they would've already been at that tipping point with 2.5M subscribers.
Their leadership has left a lot to be desired.

In my area at least, all the standard card-based-check-in theaters are showing this:
The e-ticketing theaters are still listing movies, and reddit is reporting that e-ticketing is still working.
They've obviously completely run out of cash and are just making it look like the lights are still on while they frantically search for a buyer or another sucker willing to inject cash into this money pit.

...until Moviepass is dead.
I can't imagine this AMC program surviving after the competition craters.

Mine is doing the same. And to top it off, the app keeps "inconveniently" crashing every time I request help. I've been accommodating for all the changes, I've been patient with the "glitches", too. Now I just hope some other entity buys MP and updates the pricing plan. Here, more "quotation marks".

Mine worked Friday night after they got the emergency funding, but apparently that didn't last through the weekend. After driving to the theater on Sunday, it wouldn't allow me to check in.
I can't figure out which theaters allow etickets through the MP app. If it doesn't work this week, they're getting cancelled.

They came out today and said they're not offering big movies right after release
