The ultimate most unbelievable athlete in a film: Stallone as racecar driver Joe Tanto in Driven.

This is going to piss a lot of people off but....Rocky Balboa. Especially in the first one. Stallone is what 5'9" and was not built at all in that movie and he was supposed to be a heavyweight.
You do realize the plot of the first movie HINGED ON ROCKY BEING A TERRIBLE BOXER.
He was a 30+ year old self-trained street brawler with a 40-20 record who was rejected by Mickey to receive formal training when Rocky was a kid.
That's why they fought throughout the movie. Mickey came to Rocky when Rocky got his "lucky shot" at the title. Rocky eventually let Mickey train him because he knew Mickey was right...Rocky never really learned how to box...just how to take a beating and punch back with all he had...
That was supposed to be a metaphor for his life. He kept getting knocked down, taking beating after beating...and jumping up again SWINGING.
That's what Creed's trainer saw. He told Creed "this isn't our kinda guy", because the trainer saw the FIGHT in Rocky.

Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place, and I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now, if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain’t you. You’re better than that!

Perfect description of Rocky and illustrates why the first movie was such a gem story-wise compared to the sequels.
Has anyone mentioned the kid from Rookie of the Year yet?

That's actually from Rocky Balboa - the reason he made it because he didn't want the series to end on such a sour note as Rocky V. It's also why no number - just the full name. It does capture the essence of why the character was so beloved, even though not all of the chapters lived up to the quality of the first film.

To the OP:
The Rock looks like a football player of course but not a QB like he played in that kids movie.
Maybe the ultimate for me was Tommy Lee Jones in Cobb...he was great as old man Cobb but the flashback scenes where he's playing ball looked ridiculous.

Sarah Jessica Parker as Secretariat. I just didn't find it believable.
