Tom Cruise absolutely stole that whole fricking movie w/ Les Grossman. Even today, I'll watch those clips on Youtube from time to time when I need a good laugh.

First movie that came to mind.
Great book, too. As is A Bridge Too Far.

War movies tend to draw a lot of big name actors. Saving Private Ryan has a strong cast with a lot of cameos. Black Hawk Down is similar. While not a movie, the Band of Brothers cast list is incredible.

Yep. And most of them were virtual unknowns when they were cast in the miniseries. Guys like Michael Fassbender, Tom Hardy, and James McAvoy were just starting out. Now they're all relatively well-known actors.

OP is a good one, but IMO the answer is Black Hawk Down.
