No Country For Old Men. It’s enjoyable and a good watch but I don’t see how it’s that much better than any other Neo Western/ Narcos type movie. Tommy Lee Jones dramatically rambling almost incoherently about random shite doesn’t make something a masterpiece.

I’ll get downvoted like crazy, but The Departed is so overrated in my opinion. Thought it was really boring

I find Close Encounters of the Third Kind to be incredibly overrated, but that is likely due to the hype around it vs elements from it being imitated by other films.
Doesn’t help that Spielberg made multiple versions of it that dissuaded me from watching it until a “definitive” one came out in the late 90s.

Yep. Had Heath Ledger not died before it’s release I don’t think it gathers nearly the mystique that it has surrounding it.
I disagree. Even before he died, the movie had massive hype. And the online marketing campaign was brilliant.
I'll add The Big Lebowski

The Godfather. Marlon Brando is like a cartoon character, Pacino crosses his leg and just sits there, somehow white James Caan is supposed to be super Italian, and Diane Keaton is the least fetching leading lady I've ever seen. The sound is terrible and the actual picture is so bad I can't tell if it's night day Christmas or July 4th

I also thing Shawshank Redemption is overrated. Sure it's a great movie, but it's not some kind of masterpiece people make it out to be

Agreed. I think it’s the best or the Nolan Trilogy and doesn’t get the respect it deserves when it comes to comic book movies overall.

I know our guy just passed, but I really did not enjoy Tombstone at all.

Not sure if it really qualifies as overrated, but the answer is Moonlight. What a truly terrible movie. Unlikeable characters making stupid choices and the fact that this garbage movie actually won an Oscar is baffling.
