Apparently during the Super Size me thing he left out the fact that he was a massive alcoholic and that was likely the bigger cause of all his medical issues

There’s a scene where the doctor is like “I’ve only seen this with deep levels of alcoholism” and he’s like “wow McDonald’s so bad” while sweating out whiskey

Kind of wild it lead to them removing the super size options, and also wild to think of that era compared to today where value is not the base idea of most fast food menus

So eating McDonald’s every day isn’t good for your long term health?

30 days was pretty interesting. i don't think i ever finished it all the way, but the concept was cool when that type of documentaries were taking off in the 2000s.

dude definitely had some demons, but put out some interesting ideas in film.

RIP and hope you can enjoy the super sizes in the sky.

Super-Size Me affected me to the point where I was off of fast food for a while. Then I found out it was all bullshite and I hated the guy.

He sort of redeemed himself partly in my eyes when he walked out of Catfish and said, "That's the best fake documentary I've ever seen."

I watched his 30 Days series. Easier to watch when you know going in that he's going to fabricate some of the stuff.

I can count on one hand the amount of times I’ve been to McDonald’s since watching this movie.

It was said above.

All the health issues he had were due to 2 things:

1. He was on an extreme, vegan diet just prior to his initial medical checks, which deflated a lot of the bad stuff.

2. He went on a fricking alcoholism bender while making the doc, which explains all the health issues he had during the movie.

There have been many attempts (both scientific and film) to replicate the results of the movie and nothing has come close. That's how they investigated more and found out the issues had nothing to do with McDonalds and everything to do with Evan Williams.

As for the doc, my biggest takeaway was how the fries never went bad.

Funny to think about this doc being sort of the inverse of the Hot McDonalds coffee case from a PR perspective

McDonald’s had to make a large shift in their business due to the bad PR from this doc which was a completely flawed experiment that planted a lot of false ideas about their product, while at the heart of the doc being an obvious truth (eating McDonald’s everyday is bad for you)

Compared to the hot coffee case where McDonald’s was rightly held responsibly for an insane business practice that critically injured an old lady, and somehow were able to pivot that to be the hat hanging case for the frivolous lawsuit movement by selling an obvious lie (that this lady was just out for a cash grab and there was no basis for the suit)

Both things still have a lot of people convinced of things that aren’t true to this day

I haven't been back since seeing it in Jan 2008.

That's not to say I don't eat fast food - I do - but McDonalds is easy to cut out.

The key is to not ask to be super sized for a Jim Bean for every meal.

I feel like McDonalds should have easily won a lawsuit against that movie. Almost all of his health problems were caused by him drinking 2 large sodas with every meal and his alcohol addiction.

Dude was drinking like 5 liters of soda a day and drinking alcohol. It doesn't matter if you just eat Kale and soybean for every meal after that you are going to gain weight.
