Michael Madsen IMDb

The first thing I remember him from was one of his least memorable roles, Bump Bailey in The Natural. He was just Roy Hobbs' teammate, and rival in the outfield, who was dating Memo, when Roy met her. Anyone could have been given that role.

The 1st time I saw him as the badarse killer character he played most of the time was the Val Kilmer movie, Kill Me Again (1989). I used to watch it a lot on some cable movie channel. Here's some Madsen scenes from it.

In the 90's he started popping up in everything. Hits like The Doors, Thelma & Louise, Reservoir Dogs, The Getaway, Wyatt Earp, Species, Mulholland Falls, & Donnie Brasco. He kept making lots of movies. Even appeared in a Bond movie, Die Another Day (2002), but wasn't in another big hit until Tarantino cast him as Budd in Kill Bill: Vol. 1 and Vol.2. It almost seems like he disappeared until The Hateful Eight, but he was in a lot more movies and video games.

He has 328 previous listings as an actor on IMDb, with 18 "Upcoming" listings. The dude was a hard worker, who was always in demand.

I will miss him.

I knew him. He had recently spit from his long time wife after his son died. He was already living on the edge, but fell off. Did a leaving Las Vegas and drank himself to death

Thats so sad. He really was an incredible actor. Always liked seeing him pop up in stuff.

I can't think of Michael Madsen without thinking of Reservoir Dogs

Evidently his last years were filled with grief and pain. RIP Michael Madsen.

He seemed like he would be a cool dude to hang out with at the bar, the seedier the better.

Yeah he never really seemed like he was acting in his roles, just kind of playing himself.

I’ll take one for the team and comfort Virginia during these sad times. It would need to be Virginia from 20 years ago, but still…

He is so good in that scene. And Kill Bill 2.

I think I'm parked in the red zone.

My brother Michael has left the stage.

He was thunder and velvet. Mischief wrapped in tenderness. A poet disguised as an outlaw. A father, a son, a brother—etched in contradiction, tempered by love that left its mark.

We’re not mourning a public figure. We’re not mourning a myth — but flesh and blood and ferocious heart. Who stormed through life loud, brilliant, and half on fire. Who leaves us echoes—gruff, brilliant, unrepeatable—half legend, half lullaby.

I’ll miss our inside jokes, the sudden laughter, the sound of him. I’ll miss the boy he was before the legend; I miss my big brother.

Thank you to everyone reaching out with love and memory. In time, we’ll share how we plan to celebrate his life—but for now, we stay close, and let the silence say what words can’t.

I think a role of his not talked about nearly enough is Sonny Black in Donnie Brasco. Going head to head with Pacino , making him look small, is no easy task.
