On a real note Movie was a little disappointing. I thought the movie would have been better if they stuck with the whole is he crazy thing. Maybe bring in that new game they were creating

The problem is you are basically describing Total Recall.

There is a lot more world building that had already been done to make it a much larger canvas for the philosophical discussion.

And this existential question in media predates Total Recall or the Phillip K Dick story they used to create TR.

The Analyst kind of gets into the whole meme/archetype in the initial appointment in the first act.

It’s obviously a very flawed movie but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

They at least tried to do some new things (awkwardly), didn’t force too much fan service, advanced the storyline (kind of), and weren’t overly preachy with the themes (I kept waiting for a detour to complain about the alt right using “red pilled” that thankfully never came). To the extent that it was political, it can still be easily applied to attack/support whichever side you want.

Overall it could have been a lot worse considering how much garbage is put out in the existing IP arena, though that’s admittedly a low bar.

I enjoyed the beginning.. kind of calling out WB on their shot of rehashing the movie.

Definitely knew Barney Stinson (therapist) was a bad guy.

Wish they would have gone more into the helpful robots roles.

I see where the gremlins 2 comparisons came from, I wish they had pushed that much further than they did. Every time they get going down that road they have to stop in order to have a few scenes of a traditional Maxtrix movie which are terrible and boring.

The Trinity getting the same powers as Neo angle didn’t really bother me because the director is literally transgender. It struck me more as a personal statement than a political one.

Felt like they made notes over the last 20 years on what they could have done better than the original. And then just reshot it. It’s the same story but more focus on the love story angle.

I think that aspect was part of the commentary on studio driven reboot culture

Wondering why 3 of you downvoted this? Unless we’re saying we’re against directors making personal statements with their movies? It’s one thing to bitch about forcing political discourse into pop culture but that’s pretty clearly not what was happening here.

You're as mental as "Lana and Lilly" if you can't see the amount of rhetoric pumped into this one. Agree with it or not. It's there, in heaping loads.

Even the closing credit song was a woke reinvisioning of the original movies.

I think we all know that is why it is there. We just would have preferred the lack of such a bit alteration

He was wearing bright blue glasses the whole time. How did anyone not know?

I would still believe you when you say the director is transgender, even if you didn't needlessly use the word "literally".

Jesus.

No one tell this guy about the Alien or Terminator series. His head might explode.

Anyway, I guess I enjoyed the movie. Like most here I think it was okay, not great.

I need a Matrix movie about the machine civil war and machines joining the humans.

That’s the thing about a lot of these sequels to movies from decades ago. When the “backstory” is more interesting, maybe go with that instead.
