Yea, that would have been made fun of so thoroughly in the 80s that the people associated with the movie would have stopped going in public.

Hell, the same would have happened in the 90s as well.

Wasnt the 80s famous for glam metal? Or "hair" metal?

Pete Burns formed the band Dead or Alive in 1980 during the new wave era and was the band's lead vocalist. Dead or Alive sold over 17 million albums and 36 million singles worldwide.

Are you implying that hair metal, which was, in the public’s view, tied to sex, drugs, and alcohol, is in any way related to this topic?

I mean, that doesn’t downplay how stupid the short lived period that was hair metal, but you’ll need to expound on that view of yours.

People are tired of reboots. My kids could care less about He-Man. I on the other hand enjoy the original cheesy film b/c when I was a kid, I thought it was awesome. I don’t want a remake with shitty CGI

Well androgyny became a big thing in the 80s for a reason

Im saying in the 80s yall celebrated and made people like Pete Burns famous rather than laughed at them like you stated.
quote:

On his sexuality, Burns stated, "[People] always want to know – am I gay, bi, trans or what? I say, forget all that. There's got to be a completely different terminology and I'm not aware if it's been invented yet. I'm just Pete."[100] He was proud of being a man and was once quoted "It freaks me that someone could think I was a woman. Don't get me wrong – I love women; I love men, too, and I'm very proud to be a man."

Bob Seger? Come on, back then you were listenin' to Leif Garrett.

Yeah the 80s are a REALLY bad decade to cite as some time period when strict gender roles were defended.

Androgyny played with appearances, not gender concepts

Nobody thought Bowie was a chick or Grace Jones was a dude. Don't remember Flock of Seagulls using She/her pronouns.

And the existence of them was considered high art douchery. Let's not get revisionist here

Or maybe we'll use the existence of free blacks in the 1700's as evidence of widespread progressive attitudes towards race and slavery. In the US

Hair metal, yes

Glam Rock pretty much tanked in the 70's

Hair metal fashion was not considered feminine by the people at that time.

And yet no evidence for your claim is presented

Burns was an outlier, even for the niche he fit in

He was crazy popular in Europe, which was super gay

But there was no doubt about Pete's gender.

I'm very proud to be a man.

The people who watched this as kids are around 50 now. The aim should’ve been for these people to take their kids but marketing,

Problem with that is people like me around 50 has kids in their 20’s. Those kids are too old to get into it. I don’t really want to see it. My kids don’t want to see it. This movie should have come out 15 years or so ago

Just had a conversation with my wife about this. We went and saw Devil Wears Prada 2 this past weekend and every single trailer was a sequel, reboot, or superhero.

There are rarely any original movies made.

Your theater isn't showing 4 of the 5 films at the top of the box office this week? 7 or of the top 10?

What a week to make a statement like this.

You're right. I was going off of the trailers. Original horror movies are crushing it.

When I was a kid in like 2002/2003 they tried to reboot and introduce a new He-Man series and action figure line on the Cartoon Network. Nobody my age gave a shite back then. Idk what they were thinking making this movie in 2026

It’s kind of an exciting time that low budget original Horror movies are doing well (Obsession doing better than Star Wars) and the nostalgia bait crap is bombing. Hopefully a turning of the tides.

It may not be a success but this and people rushing to say Mandalorian was going to bomb seems to be propaganda to influence people's decisions to not see these movies
