IIRC, in order to keep the rights to Spider-Man, Sony has to keep pumping out Spider-Man movies. If it lapses, then they can lose the rights. They also have the rights to many characters like Venom, Morbious, Kraven the Hunter, Black Cat, SPider Woman Julia Carpenter, Green Goblins, El Muerto etc. like 900 etc's

So Sony will continue to make shitty Spider-man movies just to keep the rights. Unfortunately, like I said they have the rights to over 900 characters so they can do this for a long time.
