Brie Larson cashed in the hefty sum of $5 million for headlining Captain Marvel, which is the highest amount the studio have ever paid to someone for their first starring role in the MCU. However, with Carol Danvers’ solo debut bringing in over $1.1 billion globally and the title hero set to be positioned as one of the faces of the entire franchise and the next leader of the Avengers going forward, the 30 year-old was said to be asking for a bigger piece of the pie for future appearances
quote:

We previously heard that Larson wanted equal pay to her male co-stars, more creative input over her solo franchise and top billing in any major crossover projects that she was set to appear in, and now we’ve heard from our sources – the same ones that told us Percy Jackson is being rebooted as a streaming series and Ahsoka Tano will appear in The Mandalorian, both of which were correct – that she’s gotten her wish.
quote:

Larson will indeed become more heavily involved in shaping Captain Marvel’s arc and figuring out how she fits into the larger story being told in Phase Four and beyond, and the next time the Avengers are assembled, it’ll be her name that appears first in the trailers and on the poster. She’ll also be getting the higher pay she was seeking.

Also Blank Panther is rumored to be going to a female lead.
quote:

As has been reported for a while now, the plan is for the Black Panther movies to eventually pass the mantle over to Shuri, which has previously happened in the comic books. And while it makes sense to do so, Boseman is said to be pretty unhappy about it, which is completely understandable, as getting replaced as the lead in a multi-billion dollar franchise isn’t an ideal scenario for any actor. And while he’s not exactly at the point where he’s going to just walk away from the role, sources say that the star feels like he’s being sidelined and doesn’t want the title taken from him.

Good for her using her leverage after headlining a billion dollar movie

would be stupid but Boseman will get at least two sequels and an Avengers movie

If all this is true...

Feige just suffered his first real frick-up. And it’s a massive doozy.

1. Larson’s character doesn’t bring one iota of the charisma and character embodiment that Evans and Downey Jr. brought.
2. Superman powered characters are boring AF and get old fast.
3. Trying to ditch Boseman for Shuri already would be a laughable failure. This has to be a trolling joke. Boseman is about the age Robert was when he came on. Has the acting chops to carry a lead role over Larson and the character history to back it up.

If Marvel had any sense, Captain Marvel and Black Panther would be Chris Evans in drag and RDJ in blackface.

Seems like comic book movie news is like 99 percent bogus/sketchy website rumors

There’s so many shitty comic book news sites out there

So she brought in a truckload of money and wants to be paid more, that's fine.

That seems reasonable

That's a stretch, Captain Marvel is a pretty meh character and hardly deserves top billing.

Also meh. There's precedent for this in the source material, so it's nothing to be concerned about. It'll probably pass back to T'Challa in the next installment.

If they do pass the Black Panther mantle over to Shuri, then I predict an all women's Avengers movie at some point with her, Captain Marvel, Scarlet Witch, Wasp, and Jane Foster who I believe will take over the Thor mantle after the events of the next Thor movie. I mean, it worked so well for Ghostbusters and Ocean's 8.

Good for her, secure the bag when you can. You don't often get that kinda leverage so you should always cash in.

Imagine thinking it would be some outrage - or even a minor annoyance - to have ONE all-female-led Avengers-type team movie, after the countless other types of MCU movies that would exist at that point.

Who cares if they do a movie in that vein? You don't have to see it! But it may mean the world to some little girl that DOES see it.

Agreed. Trying to expand their fan base is the smart thing to do. Also, Brie Larson would have been an idiot not to use this leverage to ask for as much as possible.

I don’t understand the black panther change though, unless we are talking a few movies down the line.

Doubt it was his decision. But he wants to keep his baby in his arms so he’ll nod and smile to keep TPTB happy.

A half a billion dollars for a movie to make little girls feel good. How could you possibly spend that money any better, am I right?
