Marvel board: is it right to feel like Brie Larson Capt Marvel was forced on fans?

Wanda is great, Sylvie is great, so many female characters have been amazing in the MCU.

But Brie Larsons version of Capt Marvel feels so forced.

It feels different than any of the other female characters.

The more awesome female characters come out in the MCU, the more disdain i have for this current Capt marvel.

Am i alone in those thoughts?

Yes it was forced. They should have waited until Phase 5 to intro the character and done the Black Widow Movie prior to Endgame.

It’s the only movie I didn’t find at least decent. It’s only saving grace is that it got my daughter into the MCU. Since then, we’ve watched every marvel thing except for Deadpool and Venom.

It might just be her portrayal of the character. Larson is a ©unt.

I think a different actress could have been more likeable.

The whole situation was forced and terrible. MCU has done so much right but the Hulk and Captain Marvel are disasters.

Shame.

My wife says that Brie Larson comes off as “kind of a poo”. That’s about as big an insult she can dish out so yeah - Capt Marvel sucks. And they fricked up a movie set IN THE 90S. That’s really hard to do.

ETA: off by a decade but still - genX nostalgia could have carried that movie.

It’s called show business, and they made a billion dollars. I think Marvel is ok with their decisions.

I never saw the movie, but she is straight trash in Endgame though. Like she delivers every (thankfully limited) line of dialogue like she couldn’t give less of a frick to be there.

“Hello, Peter Parker. You got something for me?”
Get the frick out of here, man. She is far and away the worst part of that movie, and it had Gwenyth Paltrow as a superhero for frick’s sake.

Yes they made a billion dollars but they also released it right before endgame strategically it would not have stood on its own any other time

Whether it's Larson or someone else playing it, the character is more of a problem.

It was too overpowered to the point where the Russos didn't know how to write her in Endgame, so they just sent her away for... reasons.

Ignignot,

I don’t understand your question. Is your question specific to the actress or character?

If you want my opinion on the movie itself I put it on the same level of the first Thor & Ant-man movies. Entertaining but I probably wouldn’t have enjoyed them nearly as much, if they hadn’t been part of a larger story.

The character more so than the actress.

I'm not a huge fan of Larson, but her being so overpowered and the timing of her release just seemed unnatural in the flow of the MCU story arc

I'm not a comic book reader but my son got a black panther book and I was reading it to him. Captain marvel was in the book and was kind of a bitch throughout the book. So I guess my question is, is that how her character was in the comics and they just went the same route on film?

Like it was really dumb that they ended Infinity War with the heavy tease for Captain Marvel, only to hardly use her in Endgame.

They literally had no idea what to do with her because everyone knew after her origin movie that she was way too powerful and didn't need the rest of the avengers to beat Thanos.

That’s show business. Give Feige a raise.
Also, how come Ant-Man and the Wasp didn’t make a billion since it was also ”strategically” placed before Endgame and immediately following Infinite War?

Really? I know she’s a bit OP but in Endgame, even though she initially does well against Thanos, he eventually overpowers her and knocks her on her arse. And that did seem a little strange seeing as how her intro was her blasting into the atmosphere and singlehandedly destroying that giant ship.

Ignigot,

If you mean the character than I would say it wasn’t “forced” on fans.

The character had seen it’s popularity rise significantly in the comics the 5-10 years prior & her power levels rose consistently with that popularity.

If MCU had X-men, Spider-Man & FF4 I don’t think Cpt. Marvel appears as soon but based on popularity & current movie rights at the time it makes sense that a captain marvel movie happened when it did.
