Odd that they changed Maekor’s decision to let egg squire.
They may not have. Maekor could be acting that way publicly to hide where Egg actually went.
In the book it was secret and we didn't find out about the ring until a later book.

On the inside the episode they just said they will deal with the repercussions of that “down the line”

You hear crows at one point towards the end. I thought maybe that was a subtle nod.

Good point, maybe, but wouldn’t this create the perception among the house that Duncan has kidnapped Egg and just make people go on a wild goose chase unnecessarily?

Who gives a shite about that? How about telling your soul bro Ray not to marry a whore. WTF, Dunk?

Yea .... I don't like how much they are changing stuff.
Egg sneaking off is a HUGE change.

Seems like they may want to stray from the books and create some new adventures. They could still add The Sworn Sword as a later season.
I mean they flashed “a knight of the 9 kingdoms” at the end of the episode.

That would be cool

I am starting to wonder if Arlan was even a true knight

I get it, they ran out of material for GoT.
But you’ve got the story for Dunk and Egg and it’s a fricking great story. Stick to the damn script.

They didn’t really “change” the decision, they just gave the viewer/reader more insight. The books are written from Dunk’s POV and as far as Dunc is concerned, Maekor let Egg go on the road. He has no idea that Maekor didn’t actually agree.

It doesn’t really change anything other than enforce that Egg is unruly. The mechanics of the story remain the same. Egg becomes Dunc’s squire.

Being given the ring to help protect him? Going around the country for years without Maekar looking for him? It’s not like they were hiding. Now, maybe Maekar was putting on an act for some people, but even that doesn’t make much sense when you realize he didn’t go looking for him. He didn’t follow through with this act. Maybe there’s another explanation down the road. I’m not too bothered by it but it does change the dynamic between Maekar and Dunk/Egg.

Maekar is going to be like the angry police chief in 80's cop movies.

Huh? In the book Maekor agreed to let Egg go.

Confirmed he was never knighted.
Not at all. Those weren't Arlans final words. Did you not see him wake up and say "A true knight always finishes a tale" or something similar? They are leaving it ambiguous on purpose.
They've seemingly made it clear they are not going to tell. Which I hope they hold to that. The showrunner and GRRM said at this point it's kind of irrelevant.

Ummm.... Dunc said plain as day "Why did you never Knight me?" Thats about as clear as they could be...
