Looking forward to the last episode. Season 2 won’t be as anticipated as the 3rd will be simply because of the lore building that the mystery knight contains.

I bet season two is where we get the most blackfyre rebellion flashbacks given the history and motivations behind Sir Useless.

It could be like half the season and would serve as a good build up for season three.

I personally like Sworn Sword a lot but I anticipate that if they don’t make some significant changes in the show to make up for a perceived lack of action then the average non book reading show watcher is going to HATE it.

Agreed and hopefully they give us some BloodRaven so we can have more background and have the actor cast for season 3. Seeing the hammer and anvil could bring back Baelor for the Hodors.

My guess for not doing it this episode is that he likely had his hands full
That's when he laughs the most.

There was absolutely no reason not to do it. I'd like to hear the showrunner's excuse for that choice.

I am probably in the minority but I think it might be my favorite of the three.

Not sure why they would hate the lack of action, this season had virtually no action prior to this episode. There's definitely going to be some good tension building up to a pretty good fight.

Dunk took a lot more damage than in the book, at least from what I remember.

I think that was about as much damage as a person could take. Lanced in the gut, spiked ball to the head twice, stabbed and cut numerus times. Dude was wrecked.

In the book, he takes the lance and multiple hits to the head with the major one giving up his eye. Pate made note of the beat up helm and how the chain mail had entered his body. I read the novella last night after this episode. Was shocked at how close the scenes and dialogue are. Really impressed with the show even more now.

Update:

I found the part I was thinking of:

quote:

“Here it comes.” Pate lifted the battered helm away. “Gods be good. Oh gods oh gods oh gods
preserve . . .”
Dunk saw something red and wet fall out of the helm. Someone was screaming, high and terrible.
Against the bleak grey sky swayed a tall tall prince in black armor with only half a skull. He could see
red blood and pale bone beneath and something else, something blue-grey and pulpy. A queer troubled
look passed across Baelor Breakspear’s face, like a cloud passing before a sun. He raised his hand and
touched the back of his head with two fingers, oh so lightly. And then he fell.

I always pictured that scene being out in the open, not in some side room somewhere. The woman who walked behind him didn't even scream. Another weird choice I don't understand, but no big deal.

I agree I felt like they were almost setting it up for some suspicion of dunk killing him or something

I think next weeks promo gave too much away (not that it would bother the people who are in this thread). But if I was going in blind, I don’t think I’d want to know Maekar is asking Dunk to take Egg as a squire.

Way more in the show

I think his only stab wound in book is the initial lance to the gut

Show added all the sword stabs

Yea, I thought in the book the fight was a lot faster. Gets knocked off the horse, takes a few blows from the mace, and then basically wrestling in the mud until he goes hulk mode and beats the shite out of him with his shield. Don't remember the almost dead part.

Plus, really wish they kept the strategy of using tournament lances because they were longer.

Flashback scene was lame.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I guess they didn't think it really mattered.

I agree 100%. The show is great and quite faithful to the book overall, so I probably shouldn’t be bitching. But this is one of several changes that I just don’t understand. This was a good scene in the book that shows how Baelor came in with a plan and immediately took command of Dunk and his crew. The show runner replaced that with “stay calm, be vigilant, and don’t die.” There was some great dialogue in other parts of the story that was inexplicably left out of the show as well. If you have great dialogue at hand, why not use it all? It’s not like they needed to save time. I also don’t understand why they felt the need to portray Ser Arlan as a total drunkard. I understand there has to be changes in any adaptation for various reasons, but these were unforced errors in my opinion.

Others that have been mentioned as well, i.e. painting of the Fossoway Apple from red to green.

The trial seemed rushed from the time Baelor entered and the fighting began. Then they took liberties and expanded it well I think. It definitely showed the grit and toughness of Dunk which will come into play for The Sworn Sword.

If any of yall haven’t heard the audiobooks Harry Lloyd does a tremendous job of reading them. Better than Roy dotrice in the main series IMO
