Who would you say is the most decent human being of the characters??
Paul Kinsey? He’s misguided and dumb but desperate to be seen as intelligent.
Ken Kosgrove? Starts off as a pig. But not by the society standards the show sets

Truly a plethora of despicable characters, but the writing is so damn good. I love this show and I think it gets better every time I go through it.

They're advertising executives. They're as bad or worse than lawyers

Unless you're a masochist, Mad Men isn't really a rewatchable series. It's consistently depressing with people that don't have many redeeming qualities.

Considering the examples set for her as she saw how her parents treated their families, she grew and overcame wonderfully.

Shows like this are more palatable when viewing as a new show over time as it is released. When binge watching a series, the character behavior becomes more obvious, repetitive, and off-putting, if not almost a defect in how the characters are so predictably bad.

Ken gets better and winds up being a decent guy.
Peggy is a good woman.
Peggy is a good woman.

Sort of like The Sopranos
Great show, great characters but the best of them are deeply, deeply flawed. Others are just despicable human beings.

It’s based on an office that revolves around marketing and sales. Stereotypically top notch, big market sales types are extreme narcissists and overall slime ball types.

It’s an incredibly rewatchable show, wtf are you talking about

Trudy Campbell was a lovely wife. She even knew Pete wanted the apartment in the city so he could have affairs and she let it slide. She didn't leave him until he went and banged someone in their circle and had it blow up and become an embarrassment.

I find it immensely re watchable. And it’s true, pretty much every major character has some shitty quality to them - but isnt that real life?
Shoot, who doesn’t know some like a Don Draper - constantly doing something morally wrong, feels guilty about it only when they get caught, but inevitably dives right back into that behavior?

I mean, she certainly wasn’t nearly as bad as the others. But abandoning her kid and a constant level of arrogance throughout the show wasnt great.

All have some degree of awful.
I dont think youre supposed to root for any of them but maybe feel sorry for them. By all accounts almost every one of these characters has it all but keep finding ways to throw it away

I only made it through 2.5(?) seasons, but which characters aren't despicable? Does the shrink turn out ok?

Another vote for Trudy. Yes they were mostly deplorable people but thats what makes interesting TV. You really want to sit and watch people get up and do the right thing all day every day?

What I picked up on rewatch is that I find myself saying “frick you” to Don numerous times. The arrogance and attitude of his character looking down on everyone while being an utter piece of shite. He only has glimpses of decency.

Apparently I'm a masochist, because I almost always stop on it when I see it running on the AMC Stories channel on YTTV.
