So this gets lumped into “person of color” now?

The majority of Chileans are Caucasian and 95% of Chileans have at least some Caucasian ancestry.

The SJWs aren’t even trying anymore. What’s next? Italian and Spanish Americans will be “persons of color”?

Don't be naive. Its well documented that if you are strong in the force a long fall isn't a threat. Neither is lightning.

Plus its a chance for a strong minority character, so that is enough reason alone for Disney.

Seems like there are 3 camps:

- Woke camp - wants women & POC in everything even if it is a bad fit.

- Triggered camp - thinks every introduction of a woman or POC in anything close to a lead role is heresy and a personal affront to storytelling everywhere.

- The "just give me a good story" camp - who enjoys a well told story and show no matter who is the hero or lead of the show.

Think I'll stick with the third camp myself.

There's a fourth camp, it's the "Star Wars has always sucked balls" camp.

R2 saved everyone.

If he* hadn't repaired the ship and allowed them to land on Tatooine, none of this would have ever happened.

I think you're just grasping at straws. The main character of this show is the titular Mandalorian.

What is he, exactly? Clearly male... and we see his face 3 times in the show. Otherwise, he's a guy in a suit. And I don't think he was cast as Hispanic. I think he was cast because he does a fantastic Clint Eastwood "Man With No Name" impression. Same raspy voice, same laconic tone, same basic role in a largely Spaghetti Western SF universe. I don't think he's been on one planet that isn't dirty and dusty.

Why alienate a majority for a pat on the back and a loss of tons of money? I don't get it.

Leading to the destruction of every IP infected with this agenda driven nonsense. The idea is that if (insert identity group ) sees themselves in these films, shows, comics, etc... it'll vastly expand the market and make the industries producing such product so much richer. It's failing, miserably. Because these stories , when told right, are entertaining for all. Shoehorning a character into place for no other reason than to appeal JUST to x audience simply doesn't work. No matter how many woke points they think they're collecting, every single IP is tankig hard with this path.

This camp effectively doesn't exist. It's the Woke crowd in the 1st camp which is trying to declare that anyone who doesn't join them hates women, POC, gays, etc... it's not a thing. It's never BEEN a thing.

- The "just give me a good story" camp - who enjoys a well told story and show no matter who is the hero or lead of the show.

Because this is what Sci-Fi has always been about. Since Roddenberry and early Star Trek, Ripley in Alien, Sarah Carter in Terminator, good story telling has been about the HUMAN experience, not this diversity, identity politics garbage we're seeing today.

I didn't NEED to be a person of a certain age, sex, 'lifestyle to cheer for a protagonist as long as I could empathize with their situation. The audience doesn't need 'muh representation 'if the story is a good one.

All this woke crap is just story tellers getting lazy. Too bothered with things like plot, motivation for a scene or a story to continue, because it's just easier to pander to a cult and then cry like a child when someone points out how terrible your story or character is ( See Captain Marvel )

How much you wanna bet he'll be saved by some WOC, and then she'll ( or xi'll) be constantly getting OWK out of fights, predicaments, shenanigans...basically he'll be made into a bumbling fool who owes all he is to the new woke Mary Sue.

What you call 'triggering' is nothing more than true fans, possibly hard core and knowledgeable fans, tired of seeing a terrible woke agenda retconning and destroying a franchise for effectively zero sane reason.

The new SJW pretenders and story tellers have no clue of what they're doing, but only concern themselves with destroying hetero white men and overwriting their story with a stronger, more impressive wahman. Just like Doctor Who, just like Batwoman, just like Star Wars and just like Star Trek.

And a great deal more.

Just stop pretending it's not happening.
