Or in most cases, I don't even dislike it, I just find a few issues to quibble over and somehow that becomes hate in their eyes.

Jack specifically asked "where are we NOW?" When in the church. Christian says "there is no now here" and that they made to find each other. When asked about before (on the island), Christian had said, point blank, that everything really happened.
He went on to say that some died long after him.
My point was you can use some ideas from the show that point to purgatory, but Christian talking to Jack isn't one of them. That was the clearest "non-purgatory" conversation in the entire finale.
Also, Desmond realizes everything is real when Jack goes down there and gets him.

I agree. Nice observation. I think they purposely left it open to whether the bomb went off at all. I like to think it was the energy pocket was released, not the bomb.
Because obviously that would have meant they were so close to it, they would surely die.
