Wow. Sayid is cold blooded. I guess we already knew that. He tortured people and killed people, but we were sort of able to dismiss that from necessity.

Shooting a kid. That is cold blooded.

Problem with time travel is that any use of it puts you into an infinite loop.

Old cartoon I once saw had two scientists about to test their time machine.

"I'll just set the timer to jump us back eight seconds.... click."

"I'll just set the time to jump us back eight seconds.... click"

and so on....

Same reason you can't kill Hitler. If you went back in time and killed Hitler, then history would not know or despise him, thus you would not go back in time to kill him, thus he would be born again. And they you would go back in time and kill him again. Kill, no need, Kill..... nice infinite loop.

Pre-Lost, which actor had the most notoriety? Seems that they'd would have made his part important...otherwise, couldn't they just gotten a cheaper fill-in character?

Normally I'd agree. But he wasn't "killing a kid." He was killing Ben.

And come on, fellas...Michelle Rodriguez and Cheech Marin aren't exactly top-notch actors. Hell, even Locke was in better movies (Tombstone for example).

Exactly. And you could tell he was struggling with it, even though he thought it was for the "greater good." All this criticism for Sayid killing a kid is retarded, imho.

We know that Sayid shoots Little Ben...we don't yet know if he kills him. Remember when Ben shot Locke and left him for dead?

Right.

Wasn't cold-blooded about it at all really.

No way it does.... Bc Ben wouldnt exist in the future.

Sayid will be the one that starts the Purge... like someone pointed out, when Ben is asked if he started it, he said it wasnt him with a grin on his face.

Yeah, but how many of the LOST folks can you name (their name, not their character's name) right off the bat? How many of them could you name before LOST? Cheech Marin wins hands down.

I really don't get the infinite loop thing. To me time travel as presented in the movie, Deja Vu, makes more sense where changing a significant event in the past creates a new reality path and the old path simply no longer exists or never existed depending on your perspective.

For instance in your Hitler example, if Hitler was killed when he was 20 years old then he would not have been the leader of Nazi Germany; a new reality path. Another leader might have still led Germany into war but probably not with the atrocities/horror of Hitler's administration, etc.

In the context of LOST, the ultimate question the writers raise is fate/destiny vs free will. Locke believes in destiny. Jack up until recent experience champions life being about choices/free will.

It is clear that the O6 going back to 1977 has created a new reality path. The question is will their actions change the ultimate outcome. For instance if Ben really is dead (which I doubt) then everything that Ben did after his death has been erased. Will all the Dharma folks still be purged? It's entirely possible since obviously there is a tenuous truce in place between Dharma and the Hostiles.

I think the key to LOST is in the properties of the island and it's relationship to earth. Was the island a natural phenomenon and Dharma tampered with something that threatened world destruction causing a preventive measure to be put in place? (Desmond typing in the disaster prevention sequence) What exactly happened when Desmond turned the fail safe key supposedly saving the world? Or were the properties of the island created by an ancient race of people (Egyptian-like) to prevent a man made or naturally occuring disaster.

My guess is Richard Alpert is descended from this ancient race. Alpert's agelessness might be explained by either traveling far back in time (hasn't caught up to his present yet) or the properties of the island/Temple have kept Alpert and the Others from aging.

Regardless, LOST is a very interesting series that I thoroughly enjoy. Carry on...

In that clip.. Horace is suffering from a nosebleed. He's obliviously moving through time. Did he go there to meet John to give him the message? Is that how he knew he had been dead for twelve years?

He might have learned about Jacob as he traveled through time.

I, like some other people, beleive that there were people on Oceanic 815 that were trying to get back to the island during the crash.

Any ideas who could've been on that plane.

Richard, Jacob, Ben, etc.

Chances are they would not have ended up in the same time period as in the pilot episode.

We know pretty much all of Ben's timeline, so I doubt he was. I think you could be on to something, though. I only doubt it because of how it coincided with Desmond not pushing the buttons in time. That seems to make it an unplanned event.
