No interest in seeing this, but critics I trust have indicated its not terrible and actually does a good job fleshing our Eric's character. Also said the girl can sing.

Main complaints are its too long, the added musical numbers don't land (and don't seem to fit) and some of the changes from the animated film don't work.

I’m just proud of Disney for making a movie starring an actress with a touch of downs

Friday's number looks to be around 40 mil, so good start domestically. It's really struggling internationally, especially in Asia.

The LM should have gone over 18 and topless for this flick. Woulda generated revenue.

Well, the Friday totals had it make $48.3 million domestic.

That’s a pretty good pace.

No, it made 38 million. Early weekend number looks like 100-105 mil

Good pace as compared to what? This is a major franchise and it needs to be doing better than that. Little Mermaid made $10 million on Thursday and $38 million on Friday. (Note that Thursdays "previews" are often counted as part of Friday's results).

By contrast, Super Mario made $26.5 million on its first Thursday and $54.8 million on its first Friday. And also another $31.7 million on Wednesday previews. It had $113 million before it got to their first Saturday.

Little Mermaid will need to do at least $135 million over its first 4 days to avoid being labeled as a flop. It looks like it can get there but that is barely keeping its head above water.

Regarding legs, June will be brutal. Both Spider-Man and Transformers will open on Friday. And then comes Pixar's Elemental and the Flash right after that. They will push Mermaid off screens with a quickness.

Any hopes of LM being a Beauty and the Beast or Lion King type massive success are dashed at this point.

I think domestic will be fine, it's internationally that'll have Disney panicking. It's basically already dead in Asia.

Fifth highest Memorial Day weekend, but it’s a bad start.

It also exceeded Disney’s expectations, but they’re…panicking?

I just looked at Box Office Mojo. No idea why it listed that much earlier.
