This is especially true after the success Super Mario movie had. I enjoyed the hell out of that film and the animation was top tier.

Well, China is known for being racist, so that's not exactly a surprise.

It's not that bad. I saw it tonight with my sister and her kids. If you go into it thinking you will hate it, then you probably will. If you give it a chance, you might be pleasantly surprised. Is it better than the original? Hell no. However, I would say that it's one of Disney's better live action remakes, probably second only to Cinderella or the Jungle Book.

Word to the wise if you're taking kids...it's a long movie. Almost twice as long as the original animated film.

Yes. My wife and I went with my sister and my two nieces. Why shouldn't we go? Because Disney race swapped Ariel? Disney is gonna make their money regardless and, believe it or not, having a black Ariel wasn't the most distracting part of the movie. That would be Awkwafina or Melissa McCarthy. Like I said, it can't touch the original classic, but it wasn't a horrible movie.

Also, after all of the talk of this being a woke movie, I expected them to completely emasculate Price Eric or make him a background character. Neither of those things happened. He has much more screen time than in the original animated film and he's not portrayed as stupid or weak.

I don't like star wars, dipshit. Me pointing out something you said was stupid doesn't make me a lover of disney.

I also believe every single disney live-action remake has been a creatively bankrupt piece of crap meant to extend rights holds and sell toys (Pete's Dragon being the only exception so far). Believing that doesn't mean I have to believe Universal is killing it, when they are clearly struggling outside of one animated hit.

Eta: "struggling" isn’t the right word. They are clearly having their own massive problems.

Took the kids see it today on vacay. We were the only white ppl in the theater. Though there were only about 20 people in the theater total for the opening showing.

We enjoyed it, but there’s some dumb woke stuff forced. For example, prince Eric is a commoner that was found from a shipwreck and adopted and raised by the black queen. Also, Eric withers away at the end hanging on for dear life as mermaid Ariel girl power, slithers on the deck of the ship and steers to boat to impale Ursula.

Friend,

The article I read tonight stated that this movie is supposed to bring in $120-150 million this weekend alone, making it the second biggest Memorial Day opening in cinematic history.

I do not know about the rest of you, but I haven’t been this excited about a theater release since Never Say Never. Little Mermaid looks great! I would venture to say it will be better than the original.

That’s because you are a hack whose whole schtick is stolen. Shitty imitations are right up your ally.

Ally,

Have you seen it yet? I have not, but it is hard to argue that the trailer is not excellent. Based on the trailer I find it hard to see it does not join the list of movies remade that were better than the original, movies like Ocean’s Eleven, True Grit, and The Fly. I am sorry, but the original Disney Little Mermaid is not exactly a masterpiece and it too is a remake of a century’s old tale. Almost always, the original written piece is superior, and Anderson’s The Little Mermaid is no exception there. Indeed, before going further should we discuss the ways in which the 80s Disney version is not faithful to the original? For instance, in the Andersen written work, the mermaid is very pale and her hair color is never revealed. Disney’s 89 cartoon shows her skin as quite tanned and with red hair. Where was the outrage when those liberties were taken in 1989?

Yours,
TulaneLSU

Noting how you felt the need to jump to Disney's defense.

If you're ignorant to the fact that Disney animated movies are being waxed by the competition, then I can't help you.

Well I fully support this. Maybe black folks will be inspired to actually start adopting children.

I'm sure there are more than you think. But I think it's safe to say The Little Mermaid was for a different reason

I always like the American version enlarging Keira Knightley's breasts...
