A third season of David Fincher's Netflix crime series is not in the near future and cast members Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany and Anna Torv have been released from their contracts, a spokesperson for Netflix confirms to ET. However, the show, per TVLine who was first to report, has not been canceled.

"David is focused on directing his first Netflix film Mank and on producing the second season of Love, Death and Robots," a Netflix rep said in a statement to the publication. "He may revisit Mindhunter again in the future, but in the meantime felt it wasn’t fair to the actors to hold them from seeking other work while he was exploring new work of his own."

Not completely dead, but mostly dead. If they were pausing it for Fincher to work on non-Netflix stuff, I'd have more faith in a return. But Netflix moving Fincher to other projects makes me think that it won't come back. Sad, it was probably the best Netflix original series.

It kind of went off the rails a tiny bit with the son being involved in a murder. I would've loved a third season though.

Really looking forward to Mank.

The only flaw really. I remember telling my wife how cliche it would be if the son was the killer. I laughed when it turned out to be involved.

Other than that it is a great show, and this is yet another example of a netflix show getting the ax. I'm over this shite.

Netflix didn't give it "the ax"

Just seems like Fincher wants to do other things and didn't find it fair to keep the actors on contract while he did those other things

I sincerely doubt Netflix is moving Fincher. Fincher is moving Fincher.

I specifically didn't say netflix gave it the ax, because the article does appear to leave open that this is not netflix's decision. It is though a show on netflix that is getting the ax, by whom though is the question.

I don't trust netflix based on previous bad moves, so I am skeptical this isn't them doing this. The Fincher angle may just be PR play.

If it were them doing this without Finchers OK, then he wouldn’t be lined up to work with Netflix for what he’s got going on over the next couple years.

Netflix isn’t telling fincher what to do

This. Its to the point i dont want to watch anymore netflix series. Too many solid shows getting chopped with cliffhanger finales.
