On a business note doesn't this sort of hurt The Little Mermaid brand? I mean millions of little girls all over the world already have an strong idea of what Ariel looks like. How can you reconcile the two Arirls looking so completely different? Little kids don't like that type of stuff. They think of Ariel as real.

The live-action Cinderella in the live-action Belle look very similar to their cartoon counterparts.

From a branding standpoint this is a really stupid move.

I mean red-headed, white Ariel is all over the Disney princess merchandise. Is she going to be changed? What is the live-action actress who plays Ariel in the theme parks going to look like?

Are they going to have them both or is redheaded Ariel retired? Is black Ariel going to just disappear after the movie?

Normally I find it funny when people melt about this

Any other Disney princess this wouldn’t really be a big deal for the remake. But Ariel’s biggest characteristic is her red hair. This is way too forced

And a stupid spoiled whore. If they’re changing her red hair, hopefully they change this as well.

Does this mean someone like Hailee Steinfeld will play Tiana in Princess and the Frog or does it not work like that?

Things like this are waking the normies up to what's actually going on.

Disney has an obvious agenda and it's not just making movies.

I just hate the hypocrisy. They gave so much shite to scarjo for playing that Japanese anime character but cheer this on

Diversity always means - less white, less male, less Christian.

Always.

Only the good guy though, not the villain. Casting a drag queen or transsexual as a villain is transphobic. Haven’t you seen Silence of the Lambs?

if you go the tweet that first announced mccarthy as a potential candidate, they were all bitching that it wasn't a drag queen being targeted for the role.

And they would be bitching if it actually were a drag queen too.

You don't understand how SJW's work.

I feel this is just a publicity stunt for Disney. It drums up a lot more talk and attention then the movie would have otherwise gotten.

They are probably also churning out these live action remakes one after the other so they can add to Disney +'s collection.

Yep. Apparently, there was a problem with Jeremy Irons reprising his voice role as Scar for the new version of The Lion King, so he was replaced with a black actor.

I'm sorry, flu me in to wherthe it says fricking wild animals must be voiced by a particular race????

So, can a buffalo only be voiced by a Lakota?? Or can a Great Dane only be voiced by Mads Mikkelson?? Oh, and I guess a snow leopard can only be voiced by some Tibetan dude or something??

What a bout whales and sharks and fish??? What is the appropriate ethnicity of a fricking cartoon voice actor must they be????

It's all so fricking insane and beyond reality it's mind-blowing.

Oh please. It's not just this board. Even Reddit (who is definitely more left leaning then this site) don't seem to be too happy about this. This includes comments from non-white who calling it pandering. Ariel is well known character with a distinct look.

She's playing a fricking mermaid. Who gives a shite as long as she can sing?

A lot of people give a shite. People would prefer if she (once again a pretty well known and distinct character) looked like the character they knew.

So I'd assuming you wouldn't care if Jasmine was played by a blonde white girl or Mulan was played by a red head?
