Couple that with Father’s Day weekend on what should have been the ideal father son movie?
Pro-Child-Groomer dog whistling.
The messaging for this movie on Monday won't be about it flopping. They will use what it DID make, and frame it as a monumental win.
Mark my words.

It’s both comical and sad. They were sitting on a goldmine that they intentionally ruined by catering to a group that literally cannot produce offspring of their own.

Every gay person has at least one straight person to thank for their being here.

Should have taken the gay kiss out...but its okay they can afford to lose money.

Straight people ensure the existence of LGBTQ. It's impossible to maintain their ranks without the straights.

Lol Right? You gotta draw the line somewhere and apparently the line is drawn here.
The wholes "Its just..." is how they get you.
"Its just a little gay kiss."
"It just a little reading with drag queens."
"Its just a little trip to the strip clubs for kids."
"Its just a little grooming."
"It's just a little protest against racism."
"It just a little bit more you have to pay at the gas pump."
lol those fricking idiots. Glad to see this moving flopping and flopping hard.
On the flip side we now know for sure that the minority+lbgt box office worth is around 51 million.

How about you be the change that you proclaim to want

That shite was horrible.

Go woke, go broke. Pretty simple.
They're deserving of this flop.
They're deserving of this flop.

My sons have grown out of this by this point anyway so there was nothing to avoid for us, but we all went to see Raiders of the Lost Ark at the theater tonight that was part of a rerelease weekend. Probably 25 or so people in there on a Sunday night and it had played once earlier in the day.
Guess what? It didn't suck.

Lightyear cost $200 million, $50 million more than Frozen 2. Somebody thought it was in the same revenue ballpark.

Lightyear cost $200 million
That's just production cost. Add about another 35 million for marketing, which is the average for any movie with a production cost of 100 million or more and you have an even bigger flop.

The Toy Story films can’t compete with Frozen, but a Buzz Lightyear movie should?
Adjusted for inflation they compete.

Why? Spinoffs usually don't do nearly what the originals do, unless they're Minions.
Who do you think are more popular overall: the Minions or Buzz Lightyear? The Minions are annoying to anyone over the age of 10. Buzz Lightyear is an exceptionally enduring character that ages like fine wine for adults. Parents should be like with their kids “Oh thank God, a Buzz Lightyear movie, not those exceptionally annoying shite heads that scream all the time.” Parents should be dragging their kids to see this just as a relief and nostalgia. The fact that this could bomb means they fricked up royally.

This spin off took one character
Probably the most beloved animated character created in my lifetime.

a toy, and took him away from the familiar setting of the series, and made him a regular person.
Or don’t turn him into a regular person. Just make him Buzz Lightyear. Don’t make him the everyman. That’s why people like Buzz Lightyear. It’s so simple. Just put Star Wars and Buck Rogers into a blender and you’re good.
quote:
It looks like a generic animated movie? The concept of an origin story for a toy is going to go above most kids' heads. Adults didn't grow up with a human version of Buzz, and having Tim Allen there wouldn't have made that more palatable.
Is Buzz Lightyear over most kids heads? It seems to me they’ve done multiple animated series on him and kids grasped it.
quote:
That said, quality and profit don't have a direct relationship. People didn't go see this movie because marketing made it unclear who this was for, and didn't make it clear how this Buzz is connected to the toy. People didn't rush out to see something that looked vaguely familiar but generic.
If this holds 50% or more of its audience in weekend 2, we'll have a better idea of whether or not people like it. And animated movies tend to hold on in theaters for a while. I don't think it will hold that audience, though.
I don't mean to play the results here. I thought Disney's own tracking of around $70 million for the weekend made sense. $51 million and second place is pretty surprising. But I absolutely do not understand your premise that this should have been as massive a hit as any other Toy Story or Disney property like Frozen.
Oh frick off. We all know why this film is bombing:
1) It’s Woke and is chastising it’s audience that they’re pieces of shite if they don’t take their kids to it.
2) Blackballing Tim Allen for his politics.
This thread made me want to go back and watch the original Toy Story. I’m sorry, Tim Allen is so fricking good as Buzz Lightyear it’s such an insult to the character he’s not portraying him here. I tried to imagine Chris Evans in that role of the original, and my interpretation of it almost ruins Toy Story if he were the one to voice Buzz. Tim Allen’s performance (as does Tom Hanks with Woody) completely carry that film.
Please don’t insult my intelligence saying this was an inevitability with this movie. Just go full Buzz, do a Deadpool like marketing campaign with Tim Allen constantly with the marketing boys doing fun and crazy stuff, and this movie done right kills it at the box office. You can’t convince me that a largely silent movie about a robot love story (as much as I love that movie) should gross higher than a Buzz Lightyear film.

Lightyear cost $200 million, $50 million more than Frozen 2. Somebody thought it was in the same revenue ballpark.
Turning Red had a $175 Million budget and did $20 Mill. Soul had a budget of $150 Mill and did $120 Mill. Onward had a budget between $175 to $200 Mill and did $142 Mill. Pixar movies are currently in the $150-$200 Mill budget range. No one was expecting Buzz Lightyear to do $1.5 Billion.

Buzz Lightyear is the most beloved animated character in my lifetime. Yes, it should be able to gross near Frozen numbers. Adjusted for inflation, all the Toy Stories basically gross over a billion dollars. You do a Deadpool like marketing program with Tim Allen being everywhere, it just kills it in the box office. Instead you have Chris Evans out there calling parents pieces of shite if they don’t want to see a lesbian kiss in a film targeted at their kids.

The most popular animated character created in the last 30 years should be able to live up to this, yes.

And no one was expecting a $51 mill opening four days. And clearly the industry was expecting $70-80 million opening, because that was what they were projecting. But spin, spin, spin…
