What's funny is that for thousands of years, people thought Troy was a fable. Homer wrote about it about 500 years after the so-called war. It was like Atlantis to Victorian scholars.

Troy was proven to have existed.

Whether the Homer war happened between the Greeks and the Trojans is impossible to prove.

But Wood's documentary shows evidence that the city was sacked and built upon numerous times over.

My only issue with the movie is that the war allegedly happened over the course of years, but it only felt like weeks.

And they took all of the gods out of it. That gave a supernatural aspect to the epic

What, did you fall asleep for the part with Bloom crawling to Hector’s feet to hide behind him?

And most of that would have been idle time after Hector's death when the Greeks built the Trojan Horse.

1. Greeks take the beach of Troy.

2. The next day is the big battle where the Greeks get their asses kicked.

3. The next morning the Trojans roll down the fireballs and Hector kills Patroclus.

4. The next day Achilles fights Hector.

5. That night Priam speaks with Achilles and they call a temporary truce.

6. Greeks build the Trojan Horse during the truce and sack Troy the night it's brought inside the walls.

Maybe there's some brief gaps in there somewhere outside the truce period but not much.

I think the Trojans would have successfully defended Troy if not for the death of Hector. They might have been outnumbered, but having those archers firing off from an elevated position, knowledge of the land, and fighting for their families instead of Menelaus and Agamemnon's egos would have given them the advantage, IMO.

I couldn't agree more. Don't know why this film didn't blow up the cinema. Loved it

And I think we can all agree that the fight between Hector and Achilles was one of the best movie fights of the last 20-30 years.

I don't know if it's underrated but remember critics shitting on it at the time. It's a good movie, really good movie, rational people recognize that.

What the frick did critics expect when the source material is basically the longest song poem in history and retold almost 3,000 years ago?

Movies before Christ ain't easy to do.

I absolutely adore this film. It's by no means perfect but holy crap is it entertaining. You can absolutely tell Brian Cox enjoyed every single scene he was in. He delivers his lines with such glee and gusto, you can't help but love the guy.

Yeah some critics bashed it because the story was told in like a 2 week timeframe vs the decade long war it actually was presented in the Iliad, but that just doesnt make for a good movie in the context Troy was presented.

Sean Bean was awesome in this as well.

Me and a buddy always quote one of his lines when we want to sound like we have a ridiculous British accent...

"I don't care about the man's allegiance, I care about his ability to win BATTLES!"
