Same thing for me except I finally watched it sooner, maybe 10 years ago. So damn good and not a chick movie at all.

I find this thread really strange. I remember people talking about how awful this movie was. I always enjoyed it.

You resented that? Every time the girls at my school were having a “movie party” watching Legends I was there. Nothing made them more frisky than Tristan and I wasn’t gonna waste that. Thank you Tristan, HS me owes you a great debt.

Its not awful by any means. I think critics found it pretentious because it wanted to be an epic but its not...well maybe critics found it pretentious so they should've loved it.

It's just disjointed and depressing...but a good watch.

They needed to tighten it up a little bit like A River Runs Through It. I mean the RT critic's score is bad while the audience score is high...because it has glaring cinematic flaws but its entertaining...always go with the entertaining score. I think its one of those movies, what could've been?

Julia Ormond was incredibly hot in Legends. Today, not so much.

alright guys, just got done watching it. Not at all what I expected it to be about. I vaguely remember hearing it was about some brothers, but that was about it.

Overall, i thought it was good. I didn't really care for it all being over a woman, but it is what it is.

Legends of the Fall is a top five all timer for me. I referenced a couple scenes in the other thread yesterday I believe. I cant count how many times someone has heard me say that it's an all-timer for me, only to come back with "that cheesy Brad Pitt romance flick?" I tell them to go watch it and see what they think. Virtually no one has come back and told me it sucked, they almost all tell me that they either didnt remember it being that awesome or just didnt really ever see it and assumed. there's not a single part of the movie i dont like.

One of my top favorite movies. The only issue I ever had with the movie is that the Indian character, One Stab doesn’t speak English in the movie, but he is narrating the movie. Just always found that odd.

damn...good call. It's always been in my top 10-20 movies but I haven't seen it in a while. Might need to watch tonight with some good bourbon.

It's such a nostalgia movie. Not because any of us were alive in that time period but alive for that time period of movie-making.

When Hollywood was making really good movies off of really good books and the movies had that certain look to them and no CGI.

A River Runs through it
Legends
Dances with Wolves
Awakenings
Presumed Innocent
The Hunt for Red October
Cape Fear
Howard's End
Last of the Mohicans
The Firm
Forest Gump
Quiz Show
Out of Africa

Etc.

As did I for the first time.
I don’t get the hate for Susannah.
Tristan was a complete a-hole. He ruined the family, not her.
It is written and acted to make him likeable.
The score is fine and allowed Horner to turn it into a much better one a year later with Braveheart.

Edit: we liked the movie and glad it was recommended here. I would never have watched it otherwise.

It’s one of my favorites. The war sequences are brutal. And I love Sir Anthony Hopkins and Brad Pitt in it

Legends lovers do yourselves a favor and watch the additional/deleted scenes on DVD/Blu-Ray discs. Ties up a few loose ends; especially when Tristan goes to sea.

Legends should have gotten an Oscar nod but they only gave out five back then and it was up against Forest Gump, Pulp Fiction, Quiz Show, Shawshank Redemption and Four Weddings.

Legends of the Fall suffers from the year it was released. Probably the greatest year of all time.

It’s a legitimate Oscar level movie that was scorned as a panty melter

I remember watching this as a boy thinking it was a fantastic male oriented movie. Then I later read the reviews and immediately realized people at the time were completely retarded in how they understood the film

It’s top 10 all time for me and it’s my personal favorite score of all time - and I have own probably close to a thousand movie scores

In this review from the time that it came out, the critic didn't like it because it didn't fit what he thought a "proper western" should have been. Not enough strong silent types and quick draw fights is the implication. Pretty shite review honestly.

For me, I do like it, but it does kind of drag and can push it to be a bit overly dramatic to the point of silliness at points.

That was my takeaway at the time. It's a try-hard movie that so desperately wants to be an epic...that sometimes you cringe at its efforts. Still a good movie though.
