Forrest Gump is a good one. Good movie, not great. Never had a desire to see it again.

Donner's Superman - saw it in theaters when it first came out. Thought it was a cheesefest then. Reeve always struck me as slightly light in the loafers to be the Man of Steel. Kidder is repulsive as Lois.

Titanic - Winslet is too homely to be the lead. Plus, her character as an old lady is a gash. Throws a precious heirloom she could have bequeathed to her family in some insipid gesture to the memory of a boy she was responsible for the death of. Cardboard cutout characters of social class division.

I don't know if it is legendary outside of this board, but I wasn't a huge fan of There Will Be Blood

This is movie is often #1 on many lists and I think The Third Man is much, much better.

This board loves that over-acted snoozefest for whatever reason. "Herp derp, I drink your milkshake." Movie sucked balls.

I couldn't agree more.

"I'VE ABANDONED MY CHILD!"

"GET OUT DEVIL! GET OUT OF HEEEYAR!"

"BLURBLE, BLURBLE, BLURBLE"

One thing I love about these type threads, the downvotes are sure to come.

True. Here, watch: Jojo Rabbit was some kindergarten Hitler nonsense made for viewers with the mentality of five year olds. Worst movie of 2019, way over-praised considering how colossally stupid it was.

Yall go ahead and downvote the frick out of me, but for me, the answer is definitely It's a Wonderful Life. One of the most boring and uninteresting movies I've ever seen.

Also was never a James Stewart fan so that helped with my hate for the movie.

Lol. See what I mean? They love the stupid Hitler summer camp movie but somehow I'm the Nazi. Hey dumbass, you're the one who loves the Fuhrer, Strangelove. Jojo sucked balls, but it's ok if you liked it, I'm not judging.

Nah, I just thought it was stupid. Only eight year olds would think it had some sort of deeper meaning to it.

This raises an interesting question:

If you were the same age as an actress when she was a minor in a film and thought she was hot then, does it make you a creeper if you still think that way about that actress in that same role after you've gotten older?

No. Because you still retain the memories of a younger version of you and how it felt to feel attracted to a minor when you were that age.

Unless you're a Roy Moore type, who digs young teen age girls because as you keep getting older, they stay the same age, then that's different. That makes you a creeper.

But the younger version of you would cringe at older you still fantasizing about younger girls.

It's a brutal construct of time. We can remember the past, but can't go back there. Sucks. But thems the rules.

Every woman I've known tends to not like this movie; every guy I've known tends to love this movie.

I don't know what that tells us.

Women don't seem to like the fact that George is seduced and trapped by a woman who steals his dreams. And it's implied he blames her and almost rebels violently at her advances.

Men like it because he had great ambition and an adventurous spirit but still did the honorable thing instead of just chasing his own desires.

I think this is a good point. Alajones mentioned Alyssa Jayne Milano and she was a childhood crush of many in that age group. As batshit crazy she is now - which could be fun - your previous young self can see 12yo her as hot. Your adult mind can see her still hot at current age and throughout. Same goes with Connelly, Thiessen, etc.

For simplicity, you age together in a way.

You still playing Cuties on loop?

I jest.

Legendary movies that didn’t live up to the hype
For OT,

Inception is my answer for relatively recent movies. Not sure it's considered legendary, but easily beloved.

I really wanted the same take, I've watched it at least 4x to be open minded and reevaluate. Opinions I trust love the movie.

It also fits right into my wheelhouse, love the concept, some of the stylization, etc. The movie isn't bad, just doesn't equal the hype.

Black Panther. It was a good Marvel movie but the “greatness” escapes me.

Someone mentioned Inception too. Good but not great - to me anyway.

Are you the guy who went batshit over people liking this movie? We get it. You don’t like it. But, you don’t like it on whole ‘nother level - which, at the time, was out there. It is just a movie man. You are either entertained or not. Lighten up.

Women don’t like It’s a Wonderful Life because Mary is the ultimate wife and mother.

“Welcome home Mr. Bailey.”
