*searched and found nothing

Watched this last night and thought it was pretty good but nothing incredible. The acting was great. Hardy, Chastain and Guy Pearce put in great performances. Shia was good as well. Overall to me I guess the story fell a little flat for me because it seemed to be such a small time story in an era of larger than life criminals and stories. I also found the love interest for Shia to be a complete waste of time. Would have rather seen more fighting and bootlegging related scenes than that.

Thoughts?

Thought the final showdown was anticlimactic, and really poorly shot. The movie was good, very watchable, well acted, but you know it fell short of the gravitas they were aiming for.

I agree with you about Shia's love interest. She serves absolutely no purpose in the movie. Still one of my favorite movies of the year though.

Overall I liked it, but I just thought some of it was kind of weird the way it was put together. Some things could have and should have just been left out, and other things could have been elaborated on more. Totally agree about Guy Pearce and and Hardy. They made the movie. shite, I barely recognized Guy Pearce, actually I did recognize him but was thinking "He looks a lot like Guy Pearce, but that can't be him???"

The love interest for Shia LeBeouf was very unnecessary, it was so boring. I loved the whole invincibility of Tom Hardy though. Could of used a lot more Gary Oldman, and I wish they'd focused more on Jason Clark than Shia LeBeouf as well. It's sad but Shia LeBeouf was the supposed headliner in this movie, and probably the worst part of it. I mean he wasn't terrible or anything, but the others just clearly outshined him IMHO.

I was surprised that we never saw his character again after the deal went down with Shia

Agreed and to me it had to do with the love story dragging his character down. He did fine acting the role but Hardy and Pearce were both better in better roles.

When the movie ended my thought was, that's it from Gary Oldman?

I really enjoyed it. Thought the acting was great. Hardy is one of my favorites now, so I'm partial to him, but Pearce was great.

Thought the story sputtered in parts and the end fell a little short. But all in all I thought it was good.

I really enjoyed it. I thought the scene where Pearce shoots Shia after he rolls up with a shotgun was pretty bad arse.

And the throat cutting scene left me all WTF for a few minutes. Good movie IMO.

Not a big deal, just a shocker at how minimal his role was.

Yeah, I mean his character was awesome as hell as it was. You just kind of leave thinking he should have def got more screen time. Maybe 5 less minutes of Shia and that Amish bitch and 5 more mins of G.O. lol

I wish Shia's character wasn't such a pussy. Other than that it was meh.. could have been way better but just not gritty enough for me.

Go with Looper.

I'd love to be able to recommend something, but since I had a kid seven months ago, my movie watching has come to screeching halt. Only thing I've seen recently is Ted. It was ok.

Pretty much agree 100%, especially about falling kinda flat, but still worth the watch IMO.
